Why is ecstacy illegal?

Posted by football on May 7, 2007, at 2:35:30

It has a 100% success rate at completely destroying your depression and anxiety. No anti-depressant comes close to that.

Yes, it can be abused, but so can many prescription drugs. And it's safer then alcohol. How many prescription drugs can say that?

IMO the reason is this......

It is very important that a section of the population be criminalised.

Why would that be?

Look at who runs public life.

Hi there,

That's true with most effective medicines. Survector (Amineptine) is being hailed as the best antidepressant in terms of effectiveness and loss of unpleasant side efffects. (Unlike many antidepressants, it is found to be resolving sexual problems of the depressed individual too) But that stuff can no longer been found anywhere over this planet.

Too much medicopolitics!

It's not that safe. It fries your neural connections the first time you use it and can cause psychosis.

Have you ever watched intervention on TV I think it says a lot about illegal drugs. Love Phillipa

Because it makes you high I think. And serious long-term use hasn't been carefully studied, but would almost certainly produce negative effects.

I've used it myself and I've watched friends *definitely* have unhappy experiences (although they made it sound cathartic, but they isolated themselves and cried, which sounds kind of sad in my book).

If ecstacy didn't produce an out-and-out high and didn't encourage pleasure seeking dose escalation it seems very likely that it would be legal.

Maybe after the next big drug pops up and grabs the popular medias attention variants of MDMA will be researched. Agonist antagonist?

Anyway, rebound effects include depression which might not be so helpful for someone already suffering from it.

and I think that there have been a number of deaths associated with it, at least in the UK. The name Leah springs to mind..... and people not drinking enough water etc.

Although that said, its probably just the same with prescrption drugs -- I mean, look at the suicides from prozac etc and all that kind of thing, so I think prescrption drugs are just as dangerous as illegal drugs like Esctacy.

Its probably a bit too mind altering for the medical establishment, if you know what I mean.

Kind regards

Meri

Ok, here's my spin on things. Been there, done that and never will again. I have watched countless friends lose their minds on E and not all of them at abusive levels either. It DOES NOT help with anxiety/depression at all, especially if you have a predisposition to anxiety/panic/depression and if you do, it can bring on the worst panic attack you will ever experience. It's a very messy drug and doesn't take long to mess your brain up. I have suffered from depression on and off for years and every time I took E it just bought on another bout which progressively got worse each time.

You ask the question-Why is ecstacy illegal?

EASY. Because it destroys peoples lives. For people like us who have mental heath concerns it's just not an option. Please don't entertain the idea about using it, it's just not worth it. It also can bring out episodes in people who never knew they had an underlying problem or even no problem to begin with at all. The information you read on anti drug sites about E is pretty accurate IMO.

It is also EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to mix it with psych meds of any kind. It's not an answer to depression/anxiety, it makes it way worse.

The initial rush might be fun BUT.......

WHAT GOES UP, MUST COME DOWN and if you miss the landing pad, it hurts like bloody hell mate and noone can see the injuries you have done to yourself. Take care and I really hope this was of some help to you. It's just a brutally honest experience of what I went through.

For a start, nothing has 100% success rate. Many people react badly to MDMA. Secondly, MDMA is not an antidepressant. At best, you'll be 'high' for a few hours.........then crash. Hardly a good treatment option for an illness than often lasts for years!

Take care

Also E can cause Depersonalization Disorder - for Life! You wouldn't want that. Cannabis is even worse in this respect. I don't think alcohol has this effect - rather the opposite

You would know why it isn't used for depression, if you ever tried it and dealt with the afterglow of severe depression. I think they are sure that MDMA releases all the 5HT in your brain at once and afterwards, you become 5HT depleted and experience depression, even if you didn't have depression to begin with.
