A success story - so far

Posted by tensor on March 16, 2007, at 16:19:19

Having problems with rcurring MDD I'm glad to have found relief with Remeron and Edronax. Had serious side effects with Edronax but they were completely (100%) resolved with tamsulosin. I'm now working and reading literature in cognitive therapy.

Been on and off this board for many years and I know that many people have had some enlightenment through years of experimenting with tens of different meds. I know Linkadge have some controversial opinions but in my case he's right. Stress *is* triggering my depression, however, the origin of my biological vulnerablilty remains unknown, probably genetical.

This accounts for people with neurosis, I feel so sorry for people with psychosis, your situation is so much worse, I wish the best for all of you.

Best wishes,
Mattias

I can't speak for everbody, but I think for a lot of people depression is a response to prolonged or unavoidable stress.

But you are right, there is likely a high individual genetic varience in stress responces to the environment.

Glad to hear you are making progress. I hope it continues.

Thanks for your reply, Linkadge, I respect you, you have a lot of knowledge. Again, I do not speak for you with psychosis, but for the rest of us. I believe we can only really cure ourselves with proper way of living, what I'm saying is that I don't think our ancestors (hunters/gatherers) suffered from the type of recurring depression (or did they?) that I do. Some of us have a vulnerability that makes us a target for depression and anxiety, and some of us need medication to "fill the gap" that makes psychotherapy useful. I hope I'm one of those lucky ones. I can't even imagine how it is to have a psychosis so I will not bring it up. God (I don't believe in God) bless you.

I read an article about the expression of depression in the indiginous Icelandic people (I think). Anyway they lived in igloos and spent a fair bit of each year staring at the ice walls and watching them melt. This encouraged stoicism in them, and when one of them became incapacitated with depression it would be acknowledged, but not analysed or especially sympathised with........it would be said that so and so had come down with 'it', much like an illness.

More recently women there have been trying to overcome the taboo about the expression of feeling associated with this.

Yes, I've read it. So that's where that comes from?

The Noonday Demon was pretty good. I also like the sound of a book that was reviewed at the same time....I forget the name. Andrew Solomon had been greatly helped with Celexa. Anyway this other bloke found ADs innefective for him, but overcame his depression with the love of a good woman and gardening.
