SSRI's (and many other AD's) tend to increase prolactin; in men the most common symptoms of high prolactin are impotence, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and infertility.

Yep, the increase in prolactin causes some of the same things in women as men (decreased libido, infertility) Some AP's cause large increases in prolactin and you see the primary effect of
prolactin, lacation.

For men increased prolactin lowers testosterone;
by decreasing luteinizing hormone which stimulates testosterone release.

You're quite right notfred--I'm well aware of those processes, so you may wonder why I asked that question to begin with, right ?

I was curious to see if I'd get other responses than what I most of the time read or hear about SSRI's.

Then it pretty much tell me that my low libido is dopaminergic in nature--at least that's what is common knowledge. However there are plenty of players in sex drive. Hormones, neurotransmitters, immune system cytokines. In my instance, my PRL is mildly elevated, meaning off the chart by about 2-3 points. I was told that it may not be high enough to affect my sex drive, but the thing is my sex drive is no more, and this has been this way for 8+ years now. I do have occasional peaks though. My Total T was 406 ng/dl the last time it was checked, my FT is lower than it should given it's 2-3% of total t. PRL is slightly elevated like i said above. TSH is fine, FT4 is fine, and although i asked my pcp to test for FT3 it wasn't tested for as the lab only perform the FT3 is the FT4 is abnormal. DHEA-S was fine, Cortisol was low (24 urinary Cort.). I think it pretty much wraps up what my labs revealed.

Last week, all of my hormones were teted again, so I'm expecting results within 2 weeks. I'm also scheduled for a Cortrosyn trial next Friday.

I tell you, my main complaint is with low sex drive, and concentration. Aside from that, I'm not really depressed at all. I'm anxious too, but that is since I took Deprenyl for 3 week one and a half year ago--I ended up with 5 panic attacks after I went off it. now I don't have panic attacks anymore.

That fits some theories as to why Wellbutrin
is helpful for many people. However my total T went from 300 to the mid 500's when I when I stopped Remeron and was only on Wellbutrin.

in fact I said it was free T, but it's actually Bioavailable T :

Here's the latest test result for BT :

7.0 out of a range of (2.0 - 14.0) nmol/L

I'm at mid-range which is not so bad--usually mid-range is fine, but some argue that it's not high enough. LH and FSH were at the minimum range value--that is low normal, so my testis are doing fine--the issue is within the hypothalamus/pituitary.

My E2 is right where it should be. I've showed my blood test results over at MESO--I don't know whether you're familiar with that forum (Men's health forum, where couple of doctor provide very informative piece of info regarding hormones, neurotransmitters and immune cytokines.

Come to think of it, my DHT was high normal, and I have thinning hair and vertex MPB.

If you have other questions, don't hesitate to either ask it here or send me an email.

Cheers
Marc

My brothers ex's mother had been on Prozac for years, and had to increase it every so often. I remember her telling me that she had experienced a weird libido surge when she had recently increased it. I'm sure this is very unusual, but there are always weird things that go on in our complex chemical bodies. Some people gain weight, some people lose. Some people gain motivation, some people lose it. But I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having a boost of libido except for this one story.
