you can get it online provided you have a docs rx...getting meds without an rx is illegal if you live in canada, usa, uk, oz...

I thought that in the US at least Adderall XR is schedule 2 and thus a paper (triplicate) prescription needed to be provided in person.

Hello alohashirt,
I think the laws regarding prescriptions vary by state.
New York State used those triplicate forms up until a few years ago. Now they have some other form that's just a single piece of paper. I think it's embossed or water-marked with some seal of approval (or disapproval, as the case may be).

Hi Sarah
What is meant by a triplicate prescription? We don't have anything called a triplicate in England.
Thanks
Ed

Hi Ed,
In New York State (and perhaps other states), up until a few years ago, in order to get a prescription for a restricted drug, the doctor had to write the prescription on a form that had three copies. I guess there was some type of carbon paper in between each page. One copy went to the pharmacy, one copy went to the "officials" in some office in Albany, I believe, and I think the doctor kept the third copy. The triplicate forms were used only for restricted drugs such as narcotics. For some reason, this procedure changed in the past few years, and now just a single piece of paper is used for restricted drug prescriptions, but it looks different from the prescriptions for non-restricted drugs. I've noticed that some other states are more lenient.
I've found that New York is more strict than other states in many respects, especially conservation/environmental issues and consumer-protection and "quality of life" issues. For example, car/fuel emissions laws are more stringent in New York, especially in the counties in and around New York City. New York also has more laws for recycling newspapers, cans, etc. There are huge fines for using a hand-held cell phones while driving in New York, although it is permissible to use a cell phone with an ear phone while driving. And in New York City, there are fines for "pooper-scooper" violations; in other words, New Yorkers MUST clean up when their dogs use the sidewalk as a toilet.
Overall, I think most of these laws are good, although I don't think about it much until I travel to a state that doesn't seem to care about the health and safety of its residents.

Hi Sarah
Thank you for the explanation. All doctors working for the National Health Service use a standard prescription form here. GPs use a green form..... special paper etc, difficult to forge. Prescriptions for controlled drugs use the same form. There is only one copy, which goes to the pharmacy. All NHS prescriptions then go to a government agency, who keep records and pay the pharmacy for the drugs dispensed.
Regards
Ed

The new "secure prescription" form is distinct from the form used for non scheduled scrips and is still called a triplicate by many doctors - despite being nothing of the kind. Just like a Green Card isn't green or made out of card. There are differences in how these prescriptions are handled. I'd eb delighted if scheduled ADHD meds were availabel online but I haven't seen them to be available.
