For the past 2 nights I have been taking a dose of 25mg of Seroquel to aid in sleeping. I don't know if it is a coincidence, and that I am really sick or if this stuff is making me sick...
What a MIGRAINE - when I wake I am groggy and feel like I have been beat up with a baseball bat. This is not the restful sleep I was looking for. Anyone else feel really weird with just a dose of 25mg???
I swear my doctor will give me ANYTHING to keep me from taking a good ole' XANAX... I just don't get it - doctors seem terrified of patients taking XANAX. Thing is...XANAX works and never gives me this sick and beat up headachey feeling... but XANAX is evil... right.

I hear ya on the anti-xanax thing...its kind of like how docs avoid valium at all costs, and will RX just about anything--and I mean anything--to avoid having to write "valium" on an rx pad. Its absolutely ridiculous. Anyway, seroquel made me feel crazy too...I had low-grade headaches throughout the day, crazy dreams, I'd sweat a lot at nite, I kicked, threw punches, and screamed in my sleep....to top it off, when the dosage got upped and I tried to take it during the day, I had this 2-hour mega-panic attack from pharmaceutical hell that left me crying on the cold floor of my bathroom. So, yeah...most people do OK on seroquel, but bad things can and do happen with it as well.

Thanks for replying! Yes, it is pretty crazy the absolutely SCARY stuff they prescribe to keep from giving you Valium or Xanax or Klonipin, etc.
I have issues with that sort of thinking. It's like I explained to my Dr. this week - I don't have an addictive personality, why am I going to have to suffer because other people do and have abused these meds?
This was my first brush with an anti-psychotic and my last. Thankfully these were sample packs that he gave me and I can just give them back on Monday - it was just very icky stuff. Can't imagine making myself feel that way ON PURPOSE.
...And if my doctor's reading this: I took a Xanax tonight instead - just one... really, it WILL be okay. :)

Seroquel at 25 MG can make you feel groggy, especially if you haven't taken it daily for a few months. You sort of have to experiment with it: Perhaps you could take it earlier in the evening. Or may cut the 25 MG tablet in half.
It has been the only med to help me with anxiety after 8 years of trying other things. It's not perfect, but what is?

((((Med)))) Seroquel was awful for you.
It's weird that US docs are phobic of diazepam (Valium) - it's the most popular benzo in the UK.
All benzos are treated with extreme caution in the UK though.

That is SO TRUE... nothing is perfect. I guess that is why I always liked the title of that movie "As Good As It Gets" - truly, one must have that philosophy with regards to some aspects of life, or you would just go crazy.
I am glad that the Seroquel helped you. We are all so different in our body chemistry aren't we? I read some of the stuff that works for people and wonder why it didn't work for me... or I wonder at some of the bizarre reactions I have to some meds that are just not typical... For example; Valium - it does nothing for me, it doesn't make me sleepy or groggy, only extremely agitated... and yet other drugs in that same "family" work... so strange. That is why a person shouldn't give up if ONE particular med doesn't work.

My problem with the "extreme caution" is that here in the US they just seem bent on getting you off of it - nevermind if it has been working for you forever - you MUST taper off and stop taking it. If a person isn't abusing it, then I don't get this way of thinking, as there are so many other drugs that cause lasting side effects out there that no one is insisting you wean yourself off of.

Hi Empathy,
The UK is probably the most benzo-phobic country in the world. You wouldn't like it here!

It's ridiculous isn't it. The same applies here. My current pdoc won't prescribe benzos at all, even for short term use.
Kind regards

Xanax - obviously. Haven't taken them for awhile, but Klonopin and Librium used to work good.

None at all? How frustrating that must be for you. Does anyone have a link to the "scary information" that evidently is perpetuating this hysteria?
I don't understand it... if I take too much Xanax, it simply quits working. Hence, I have no motivation to take more and more. For me, more doesn't equal better results. How am I in danger? From what I understand there is nothing "chemically damaging" about this drug - high blood pressure medication or high cholesteral meds are much more damaging. Why the fear??? Anyone?

My last two pdoc *only* prescribed Valium - no other benzos allowed! I didn't mind though, I find Valium ok.

Empathy, I agree with you. I used to take xanax and then it just stopped working and when it did work I never wanted any more than I needed. I don't like taking medications. Fondly, Phillipa
