Amtrip is great when it works, however it has stopped working at 10 mg,and if u go up it looses it sedative properties, least it has for me,but when it worked it provided a nice almost normal feeling sleep!
Trazadone is an ugly drug, old and ugly,u fall asleep but u feel ur on a drug when do,and when u wake.I dont think there are many fans of this old AD out there, might be some, not many.
Remeron is prety good, when i used it i remeber i liked the fact that after the sedation wore off there was a small surge of energy,a anti depressant effect. So a actual sedating AD that truly provides next day mood elevation, cant hate that. However my run with remeron was so short since i only had a few tabs i dont know if it was gonna poop out or not,but to answer ur question both remeron and amtrip were pretty good, trazadone, blah hated it!

Hi Willy,
Remeron sounds like it was a good med for you. Why don't you try it again?

I prefer Remeron for sleep over trazodone (I "slept" but did not *rest*--not a pleasant experience) and the tricyclics (Tofranil-PM was sedating, but it wasn't at all "clean"). There's the whole weight gain/daytime sedation thing to consider, but going above 15mgs helped me. Unfortunately, Remeron seems to be most sedating and effective when used at depression-treatment levels; my particular mood disorder reacts weirdly to antidepressants sometimes, with an increase in mild swings up and down. Good luck!

Hi Med :-)
Have you ever tried one of the more sedating TCAs? I rememeber you were interested in trimipramine.
Kind regards

Hey Ed
Not sleeping well?
Out of these three Remeron is clearly the best, for me
It provided good quality long term sleep
Intially I got daytime sedation, but this soon wore offUnfortunatly I've developed some tolerance to Remeron
Amitriptyline is ok
Trazodone=Horrible!

Hey EdI'm sorry to hear your having trouble sleeping, insomnia is very annoying
I have a lot of respect for Mirtazapine/Remeron as an AD and a sleep aidMirtazapine doesn't have any of the drying effects that Amitriptyline has, also Mirtazapine has an anti anxiety effect for me, even with one dose
Amitriptyline helps me to fall asleep, but it doesn't improve sleep quality, were as I feel more rested with Mirtaz
Mirtaz does perhapse cause a bit more morning sedation

Well, sorry to state the obviese, but "start low go slow"Mirtazapine can cause quite a hangover to begin with, so I would start with 7.5mgs and go up to 15mg if thats not enough
You should feel effects almost imdiatly with ZipsinSleep well!
I'm going to bed

A funny thing about trazadone...when I was taking it to combat Effexor insomnia, it was AWFUL! The next morning I felt as if I'd polished off a bottle of booze the night before and needed to eat to settle my stomach.
So I switched to 25mg doxepin which has worked well, but my body has adjusted to it and it doesn't sedate me as much as I'd like to to. Other than that I'ver no side effects from the doxepin.
I just started Remeron and I really like it so far...out like a light with no side effects and a lighter mood the next day. I need to discuss a long term prescription for this with my doc in a few weeks.
I've never tried Elavil, but my father was on it before he died a little over a week ago and he had been switched from Remeron to Lexapro to Evavil for reasons unknown to me, so I could try it (shhhhh) since he has leftovers. His doc said it would be good for his nerve pain, which I have been living with for some time.
Back to the Trazadone. I recently tried it again because I had run out of doxepin and it didn't make me sick at all the next day. Could this be because I am also taking Klonpin at bedtime? I can't figure out how my reaction to it could change so drastically in just a few months. Well, I have rambled enough. Any thoughts on this? Maybe Elavil would be better for me than Remeron if it indeed helps with chronic nerve pain.
Thanks,
Colleen

Hi Coleen,
>His doc said it would be good for his nerve pain, which I have been living with for some time.
It certainly could be :-)

Perhaps your tolerance to the side effects was altered by the long term use of doxepin.
Kind regards

I've been on Remeron for a few years now. Works great for my insomnia -- has also helped my depression and anxiety. I'm on a higher dose (75 mgs) as it is my only med. to control my depression and anxiety. I was on 60 mgs. for quite a while and only recently had to up it again -- I'm worried that I developed tolerance to this drug. Only time will tell.
Good luck.
Lynda
