I'm sorry to hear your having trouble sleeping, insomnia is very annoying
I have a lot of respect for Mirtazapine/Remeron as an AD and a sleep aid

Mirtazapine doesn't have any of the drying effects that Amitriptyline has, also Mirtazapine has an anti anxiety effect for me, even with one dose
Amitriptyline helps me to fall asleep, but it doesn't improve sleep quality, were as I feel more rested with Mirtaz
Mirtaz does perhapse cause a bit more morning sedation
