Sertindole is reapproved now for marketing in Europe. Maybe they'll give it another try at bringing it to the US market. It has some unique properties that might make it a better option for some. Specifically, it blocks D2 receptors, but not in the striatum. It's reported to have an anxiolytic property, not be sedating, and not impair cognitive function according to this site listed below.

Sound interesting, I wonder if it helps social anxiety.

That's what I was curious about. According to the study listed below(click link), people with generalized social phobia may have low D2 receptor binding potential in the striatum. Since sertindole blocks D2 receptors preferentially in the limbic system instead of the striatum, perhaps it would be somewhat helpful for social anxiety? I wish I could give it a trial.

But it says it's for schizophrenia. Has it been used for just anxiety in the past? Fondly, Phillipa

I think most anti-psychotics like sertindole are usually put through trials for schizophrenia first. Then, they may try to get other approvals for Bipolar or anxiety, etc, if they're found useful in other areas. I couldn't find anything by searching about sertindole being used for anxiety except for my first post that said it has an anxiolytic property. This could be though, because sertindole was only out for a couple of years and before it got withdrawn from most markets in 1998 for causing possible heart problems in some patients.
This is the end of the thread.
