Trazadone for sleep. Onset, Dose, Effectiveness?s

Posted by fachad on March 27, 2005, at 20:54:34

I know trazadone is very very old news for sleep.

Does it really work?

Are there any drug interactions with other psych meds?

How long does it take to work? (for me, Ambien works in about 15 minutes, while Ativan takes about 2 hours).

What is the best dose for sleep? Is it like Remeron where a lower dose works better for sleep than a higher dose?

How long does it last? (for me, Ambien only lasts 4 hours, then I wake up. Ativan lasts 8 hours. Remeron lasts about a week.)

Anyting else special or different I should know about Trazadone?

I'm very interested in following your Thread. I do like my valium, but I'm giving up the remeron. It lasts a week? What do you mean? As far as the others my experience is about the same. I wonder if Lunesta will be the drug we have been waiting for? I was afraid to try trazadone, so I hope those who have respond. Fondly, Phillipa

By "it lasts a week" I just meant that unlike Ambien, which wears off far too soon, or Ativan which keeps me asleep all night but does not leave me hungover, after a dose of Remeron I could sleep for days.

It just knocks me out, and it does not come close to wearing off by morning.

I think I've heard trazadone is extremely safe. I did try it once about 15 years ago but I woke up in the night with a bad headache and I attributed it to the trazadone so I never took it again. But it might've been just a fluke, so I'm wondering how others have experienced this med.

How much remeron were you taking? I was taking l5mg and so was my son-in-law. He also stopped taking it as he said it didn't help him sleep. We're all so different. I use valium to sleep, and he is on Adderall and sleeps. If I were to take it I would probably jump out of my skin. Fondly, Phillipa

It takes at least an hour

Personally I find higher doses work better with Remeron and Trazadone

Unfortunatly for me Trazadone has the worst hangover of any med I've used for sleep, Remeron is better in this regard.
Don't know why this is, hopefully it will be different for you

Apparently Doxepin can also be used for sleep as an alternative to Trazadone and Remeron
