Lexapro may not be working for me
My psy doc has suggested Effexor or Cymbalta
Do Effexor and Cymbalta affect the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine the same, or is one stronger in blocking the reuptake of one neurotransmitter than the other?
My doc also suggested Remeron
I have GAD, panic, OCD (obsessional), and depression

In reply to difference between EffexorXR and Cymbalta?, posted by chess on March 19, 2005, at 10:45:21
Aside from the obvious differences -- they're different drugs, different molecular structures, etc -- there is a difference in how they affect neurotransmitters. Both are selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, but Cymbalta is more balanced: it inhibits the reuptake of both more evenly at all doses. Effexor changes its profile at different dosages: lower doses target serotonin, with progressively higher doses adding more NE to the mix.
Hope that helps.
