Thinking of switching BACK to Effexor...

Posted by Colleen D. on March 9, 2005, at 19:15:18

I've been on 60mg of Cymbalta and clonazepam for about 3 months now and am noticing I'm lacking the energy I had with 150mg of Effexor. I tried reducing my clonazepam dosage from 1.25mg to .5 daily to see if the benzo could be making me sluggish, but I get very anxious in the afternoon if I take the .5mg of clonazepam in the morning and limit it to that for the day.

My other thought is that maybe I could ask my doc about switching from clonazepam to Xanax as needed and staying on the Cymbalta, hoping to regain some energy by taking a benzo with a shorter 1/2 life.

Any comments, suggestions, experiences? I feel like I could be a benzo "lifer" because of the anxiety/panic/racing thoughts I have.

Just looking for some input from the group.

Thanks,
Colleen

I know I'm beginning to sound redundant, but I've tried all the benzos, and namebrand valium is the best. It's long acting, and doesn't make me tired. And I can sleep at night. Fondly, Phillipa

Is valium commonly prescribed for GAD??? » Phillipa

I've never met anyone else taking it for anxiety and my pdoc's 1st choice for me was the clonazepam. I am without a pdoc at the present so I'm wondering if my GP would even consider prescribing valium for me. My dad is suffering from anciety and panic attacks, so I think it's in my genes. Perhaps my family history would support my trying other things for anxiety. My dad has been prescribed Paxil and Xanax and he refuses to take either - he is a mess right now!

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. I will research it a bit more before my next appt.

I had to switch back to Effexor after having tried Cymbalta...

Cym just wasn't doing it for me and my BP went thru the roof.

I thought Effexor and Cymbalta were similar

I was thinking of trying Cymbalta, rather than go back on Effexor. Effexor worked great except huge weight gain. What made you dislike Cymbalta? I thought Effexor and Cymbalta were supposed to be similar.

They are... Supposedly... It is hard to say why one felt different over the other.

Cymbalta made me feel spacier than Effexor and it didn't seem to help my depression. It also played havoc on my Blood Pressure.

Phillipa,
How long does a single dose of Valium last for you?
I'm taking XanaxXR right now and a single dose seems to last between 8-12 hours for me

Hi,

>How long does a single dose of Valium last for you?

In short-term use, a single dose of Valium lasts a few hours. For me, it lasts about 2 hours at most, mild residual effects can persist for much longer. After Valium has been taken regularly for a few weeks, it's active metabolites accumulate and eventually steady-state is reached. At this point, a single dose lasts much longer, some people can get away with taking it once daily. Many people have to take it more often though 2-3 times a day, some people even have to take it four times a day. After regular administration for a few weeks, Valium has a longer duration of action than Klonopin.

I guess it lasts about l2 hours. Remember I take l0mg at bed, and another 5mg when I wake up. It's hard for me to know how well it's working during the day because I haven't been in very stressful situations lately. If I worked, now that would probably be a different story. Fondly, Phillipa
