Hi Everyone- It's been a long time since I've posted to this board because i was doing fairly well. But I'm having sleep problems big time! I always slept like a baby until my mom died about a year and a half ago. I'm on 60 mg Celexa (20 in the am, 40 in the PM), Wellbutrin 150 mg, Klonopin 3 mg 3 times a day and I've tried Neurontin (too sedating and upset my stomach) and trazodone. Traz at 75 mg worked like a charm but made me sick as a dog (I dropped to 50 and still felt sick). So now I'm down to 25 mg and my p-doc suggested that I drop the traz and try taking 1 klonopin in the am and 2 at night.
Last night I took 25 mg of traz and 1 mg of klonopin at bedtime and then another mg of klonopin at 4:30 when i woke up (I am sleeping about 5 hours per night- need 8-9 hours) and here I am, wide awake.
I'm at my wit's end. This has been going on for a long time but I'm in a Phd program and I just had a fairly serious ski accident so my body needs SLEEP! Does anyone have anything that works for them? i also started taking fish oil again this week. I can't take anything more serotonin related. It gives me horrible flu-like symptoms. HELP! And thanks in advance.

Hi,
ditch the trazodone and start taking 30mg remeron at bedtime. It is probably the best sleep aid.

The Remeron suggestion is a good one, I found it more effective than Trazadone.
Perhapse you should consider dropping the Wellbutrin, do you think that it might be contributing to your insomnia?
I have never taken Wellbutrin myself, but I have heard it can cause sleep problems.

I would second remeron as a long term one as long as you watch your hunger... can cause weight gain that way. For sleep 7.5 or 15mg would probably be enough, 30mg is getting to a clinical dose. May even promote REM sleep states.
Also Ambien for a short term week to a month is effective (I happen to be among those who have taken it far longer than that, although they say otherwise, but thats up to your doctor). It may have less morning grogginess.
When they've fully ironed out whatever they're trying to iron out, Lunesta (eszopiclone) may prove to be a good long term solution. That remains to be seen.

Thanks everyone. My pdoc suggested remeron but I think it might have the same effect as the trazodone because both affect serotonin (from what I've been told) and the 60 mg of Celexa is the most I can tolerate as far as drugs that affect serotonin.
My pdoc was thinking about replacing the trazodone with a small dose of seroquel. Any thoughts? Also, is trazodone withdrawal bad? i'm only on 25 mg but have an extremely sensitive body. Thanks, Mountain Dog
