Hi.

That's an interesting idea. Where did you get it from?
> desperate for a plan to go to the pdoc with,
I hope you get a slew of ideas from other posters. The only strategy that I can think of off the top of my head is to use small doses of Prozac as a sort of buffer.
I have thought to use Zyprexa, Neurontin, or even Klonopin in the past, but I never really had much of a problem coming off of Effexor when I tapered very slowly. Towards the end, I opened up the capsules and took smaller and smaller amounts whenever I felt the withdrawal syndrome returning. Don't let the manufacturer's dosage forms limit your creativity in tapering dosing.
I really hope other people contribute their ideas here. I think I'll make a list to hold on to.
Good luck.

yes, titration seems like the best method with a couple of prozacs at the end. i don't like benadryl so i was thinking that in the past i had some severe reactions to a drug and was given cogentin. i had some leftovers so anytime i had a reaction i'd just pop one and feel better. some of my withdrawl symtoms mimic those reactions, the itchiness, sweating, numbness, visual disturbances, and nightmares w/ sweats. cogentin was kind of calming too- like a warm blanket. i probally will try it.

Hi, I'be been withdrawing, take klonopin to help. I agree, listen to you body, its been about 31 days now and I am taking 37.5 every other day until I feel like I stablize, then I'll move onto every 2 days off and one day on,until I feel stable and so on. It could take me another month, but its whats keeping me sane, functionable and out of harms way. feel free to follow my thread, renee tapering off effexor. Renee

Hi Renee.I think you are much better off taking Effexor every day, but in smaller and smaller amounts. This will involve dividing the capsules or tablets. Taking Effexor once every two or three days will put you through an unncessarily protracted withdrawal period. I have had great success discontinuing Effexor on several occasions this way, as well as benzodiazepines.

As a matter of fact, I would take tiny amounts of Effexor several times during the day. I would wait until the very beginnings of the withdrawal syndrome appeared, and then take a small dose. Don't be afraid to nibble at the tables when you need to. I found that I could go longer and longer between doses and use smaller and smaller doses. It worked tremendously well for me. It is important, of course, to determine what your individual withdrawal symptoms are to be able to act on them before they become too uncomfortable. By the same token, I think it is important to wait as long as possible between doses by allowing the withdrawal syndrome to appear.
