i have been on cymbalta for 7 days now. i went from 30mg to today 60mg. it has made me very nauseaus so far. i feel like i have the flu. i have not felt like eating much since i have been on cymbalta. it has not been long enough for me to have noticed a mood change. i was taking lexapro for about 3 years. it always worked well until the last 2 months. my doc thought cymbalta would be good because i have lots of aches and pains with my depression. she thought it could take the edge off some. has anyone else had loss of appetite with cymbalta and how long has it lasted?

I didn't have a lot of nausea, and loss of appetite wouldn't have been a big deal to me (anorexic -- I'd have liked that effect), but all the start up effects faded within a few weeks. Probably by six weeks, everything was copacetic. The only thing that remained problematic was the amotivation, so I take Provigil, too. And it wasn't greatly effective for me, so we added Wellbutrin, too. Now things are OK.
By the way, I have arthitis and a lot of pain, and hte Cymbalta really has helped with that. I'm doing a hell of a lot better than usual this year -- usually, this time of year, my joints are all very stiff and painful. This year, there's some discomfort, no actual pain.

That's interesting about the pain decreasing, because since I have been weaning off the Cymbalta I have noticed a lot more aches and pains but attributed it to age and weather. If I may ask, what type arthritis do you have and how old are you approximately. Thanks, Phillipa

I don't mind you asking, as long as you never call me "Ma'am" -- I have osteoarthritis, worst in my knees, hips, elbows, and wrists. I'm 40 1/2, but I'm small for my age. I've had OA since my teens, because of a connective tissue disorder, so it's long standing, and I've been through more meds for it than I can remember, but have relied on one med -- ZORprin -- for most of that time. And, frankly, because I hate taking medications, and because I was uninsured for so very long, I really haven't taken anything for it for years. Just suffered -- though not in silence -- for the most part. It slows me down, but doesn't really stop me from doing most things.
The Cymbalta seems to ease the discomfort a lot. This time of year, I'd usually be creaking a lot more than I am now.

Don't worry, I would never call you Ma'am. I hate it when called that too. But, I don't know if you are female or male! I didn't want to get too personal but the age varies so much on Psycho-Babble. I am older than you are. I guess we all get arthritis at some point. Just be glad this med is helping you and wasn't Viox! Phillipa

My appetite has slowly diminished since beginning cymbalta. My portion size at each meal has greatly shrunk. My body used to crave sweets and carbs as a *cure* for stress and depression. With cymbalta, I no longer need the food *cure*. I still have my occasional sugar binges but they are more boredom-related.
Oddly enough, I've found that certain foods taste differently now. For example, I bought a huge bag of smarties for Halloween and I'd eat 6-8 rolls at a time. Now, they taste funny to me. Weird.
And by the way, I've been on cymbalta for about two months.

I have lost my ability to taste and suck on chocolate, which I can taste a little. I don't feel hunger or when I'm "full". Never thought it could be the Cymbalta. I'm weaning off it and am down to 8mg {opening capsules and measuring contents, and putting desired dose back in}, only problem is I'm having terrible W/D effects. What everyone calls brain zaps, muscular pain, dizziness, and tears appearing for no reason. I also am out of capsules and don't know what to put the extra contents in as a medium to continue coming off this drug. Any suggestions? Phillipa

I too had a headache starting Cymbalta but it passed. Took a couple weeks.
