Attn: Catmint - Lamictal and late night cravings..

Posted by becksA on November 19, 2004, at 11:39:50

Hey, I workout twice a day, seven days a week..and have gotten to the point where most would say I'm in very good shape, but I still am not happy, I want to be toned (abs are my main problem), like you see in health magazines. You'd think working out 12-14x weekly would do it, but throughout the day, because of adderall and I'm working and not right by a fully stocked kitchen. When I get home, after I eat a normal sized dinner, though, I eat embarassingly high amounts of food like 4 bowls of cereal, a granola bar, etc...Im positive that's the only thing holding me back from my goal. Not to mention if I slowed down my workouts I'd probably start putting on weight.

Unfortunately I started the Lamictal (which seems to be working) around the time I started this hard workout regimine , so I'm not sure which is causing the cravings. What have you tried to cope with this problem?

Thanks

Hello,

I don't think this will make you feel any better but I have a worse problem.

Two years ago, I suffered from an episode of severe depression. Essentially, I spent an entire year in bed, sometimes in hospital, sometimes at home.

Now, I am no longer depressed but am extremely unfit. My body has never really recovered from speding so much time immobile. I get breathless just from walking. I can only run for a few meters at a time. I have no visible muscles on any part of my body. I feel tired most of the time and I am unhappy with my appearance.

All the best...
Ed

Sorry, I hope you didn't interpret my post as being rude. I was just feeling down. Having a toned body would be good but seems unlikely for me.

Regards,
Ed

I hear ya man, good to get it off your back...you sure you can't start working out? starting is the hardest part by far. once you get past the first couple weeks, it gets easier and easier....ive been doing it so long now i actually look forward to it! Especially now when the weather is so nasty, it's my little oasis....i go there and for 2 hours im in a nice energized, motivated environment, then i finish with 5 or 10 mins in the hot tub and/or a nice long hot shower. best to ya

HI...
I guess I do need to start working out but it's so hard to get started. I get tired just walking up the stairs!

Ed.

PS. I don't think you have anything to worry about. You'll need to eat a lot if you're exercising.

Hi Ed,
Please don't be too hard on yourself. It takes a long time to recover from severe depression. I think you are on the right track, can you try to walk everyday? You will get better and better every day provided you are on the right meds, and you take good care of yourself. Try not to compare yourself to others, be patient with yourself, and you will eventually get back in shape.

Are your meds working for you?

Hi there,

Could be a sluggish metabolism. Do you eat enough throughout the day?

Hi Catmint,

Thank you for your reply.

I'm not depressed at the moment but I do get very tired. My meds help my depression and anxiety but the Celexa makes me even more tired and lazy. I can't reduce it because my anxiety comes back. I think I need a stimulant or something!

Regards,
Ed

Arghhh, I had written a long reply, must have forgot to hit submit. Dude I think you are overtraining big time. You need to give your muscles time to recover or you won't gain much mass. On top of that, if I read you right you are not eating during the day. This is bad for you, but beyond that you are burning muscle by not eating.

You could try quality meal replacement shakes, get the kind that are 40/40/20, 40% low glycemic carbs, 40% mixture of proteins and 20% healty fats. I drink alot of them, it only takes a second to make or you could get the cans. If you have a reduced appetite during the day from the Adderall you should still be able to quaff a couple of these instead of eating.

I haven't had an increased appetite from Lamictal but I have in the past from other drugs. Maybe try fiber supplements with dinner, drink extra water. Maybe your body is just starving for calories though.

Good Luck
Rick
