Mitch ... Klonopin vs. Depakote

Posted by smith562 on November 2, 2004, at 10:47:00

Hey Mitch,

Have you ever tried to get rid of the klonopin all together and just increase the depakote to cover the panic?

Smith

I tried 125 of depakote last night ... pretty apathetic and flat

Depakote is not a pure gaba effect, while klonazepam is. Depakote blocks certain voltage sentisitive neural pathways that can further dampen nerve activity.

I find clonazepam seems to be a little less "mind controlling" than clonazepam

Would it be wise to combine Depakote with Klonopin, since they both act on GABA, for synergistic effect? I'm mostly interested in social-anti-anxiety effect.

Would any other benzo combined with Depakote be increased in effects?

Depakote and Klonopin has been done successfully many times. Just make sure you get used to the combined effects before engaging in something like driving, because the effects of the two will be additive.

Depakote is probably not as effective as clonazepam for social anxiety, although I don't know for sure.

I do know that depakote made me feel a little more incabable than I did on just the clonazepam.

depakote, has mood stabalizing effects, that *may* make you a little less socally outgoing.

Give it a try, but beware that its mood stabalizing effects may make you less outgoing.

The only time that more Depakote seemed to help with panic was when I was having manic symptoms along with it (an anxious agitated mania). The manic/panic thing. They can fuel one another. However, when I'm 'normal' or depressed it (depakote) just makes me more flat and apathetic as you apparently are experiencing. The only substitute for clonazepam (i.e. a benzo) that really came close was Keppra. I slept great and found panic anxiety diminished greatly---but it made me very angry and I felt more depressed. Neurontin worked rather well-but I can't tolerate it either. Oddly enough, Stratterra had a panic blocking effect, but made me more jittery and nervous. It was weird. I traded panic anxiety for generalized anxiety!
