Zoloft and Lexapro - Differences

Posted by Frederick on June 30, 2004, at 17:59:18

Hi to all..

I am new here... Im not taking Zoloft 100mg per day for clinical depression and OCD, I tried Effexor for a few months but went back to Zoloft again (less restlessness compared to Effexor).

I've read some positive feedback on Lexapro, but I wanna know the main differences between the two; side effects etc... For those taking it for depression and OCD or other forms of anxiety, your feedback would be greatly appreciated especially if you have been on Zoloft before.

Thank you.

I started Zoloft on Saturday... (on the Internet for a month's supply, but I know my pdoc will put me on it in two weeks, so why wait to find relief?)

Today I felt kinda spacey, didn't care about acting all dorky to my professor in class, which is a good thing for my obsessive thoughts/social anxiety. Also, my mood is improving. Hope it's the drug causing that!

I'm also on Abilify at 15mg. Here's a tip: combine an antipsychotic, preferrably the high-tech Abilify, to an antidepressant and the two synergize each other to actually work.

SSRI's don't work. Let's face it, that's why we're here. The best you can do is make them work by combining them with an antipsychotic.

Hi utopizen,

I'll ask my pdoc about combining SSRI's with Antipsychotics. Zoloft gives a mild form of mania in my case and makes me a bit more focused when doing something that requires concentration. The downside is that I still tend to get oblivious in budgeting my time as if it didn't existed that I miss out on doing other priorities/responsibilites. I tried the alarm clock method, sometimes it works but most of the time it doesn't *just can't stop*.

BTW, I am taking taking 100mg of Zoloft, 100mg of Lamictal, and 0.5mcg of Xanax per day. They are of course taken in increments at diff times of the day.

Ssri's don't work. . . That's why we're here. » utopizen

That should be the motto of this website. How about some T-shirts and bumper stickers?

i took zoloft for a few years and got great relief with it. the sexual side effects were what switched me from that to celexa. lexapro is supposed to be even "better" than celexa, but i've chosen to stay with the celexa. "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." i disagree with utopizen - i think the ssri's DO work, you just have to find the right one. i also take wellbutrin xl, so combining an ssri with something else brings even greater benefits.

try the zoloft and see how it works for you. if it doesn't or you don't like it, there are others out there.

Comparison of Zoloft/Lexapro

Hi there. I took Zoloft for a short time but had to stop as it made me so nauseous that I couldn't stick with it. I also had tried Prozac, Paxil, Effexor, Trazodone, Serzone(made me incredibly spacey) and welbutrin. Nothing did ANYTHING for me, other than making me sick.
I started Lexapro six weeks ago and it's been wonderful. Side effects were nausea, etc, but my doc (primary care physician) suggested I cut pills in half. This worked great. Side effects abated and I worked my way up to 10 mg. Now feel less anxious, less depressed. So this SSRI is working for me. For now.

My best friend takes Zoloft, likes it alot, keeps her from feeling depressed, no side effects. She tried Lexapro and it did NOTHING for her. So I think it's all pretty random what will and won't work for who.

warmly
h

Hi h,

Thank you for your feedback. I really appreciate it. It just goes to show that there are different strokes for different folks...

Warm regards,
Frederick
