Sulpiride: A Matter of Great Concern Please Answer

Posted by Pluto on June 1, 2004, at 1:50:03

Hi to all,

I read somewhere in this board a shocking news. Europe is going to give up producing sulpiride. Is this true? Oh my lord! Sulpiride is the best anti-anxiety, anti-dysthemic medication I ever took. If it is vanishing behind the curtain like Amineptine, I would really have to struggle to live this life.
Sulpiride is not a medicine that Americans can enjoy, because neither sulpiride nor amisulpiride is available in U.S. But if FDA put pressure on Europe to stop sulpiride! It is the worst scenario that I can imagine. Please!

Worried and confused
PLS

Havent read and dont know. Maybe you want to check out the "european drug regulation authority" www.eudra.org (its down at the moment). But I can Imagine its true, because sulpiride is old, and Amisulpride is avaiable. Why dont you try this one? Schould work the same, with fewer side effects (actually none for me).
And I dont think the FDA has any power over the european drug authority, right at the monent. I am sure they dont care what they say at the other side of the pond.

Dear Rod,

Amisulpiride is not available here. Risperdal is available. Does it have the same actions of sulpiride?
PLS

Dear Pluto,

I dont think Risperdal has a similar effect as Sulpiride or Amisulpride has on dystymia or anxiety. But if Sulpiride will be withdrawn, you can switch to Amisulrpide, which is similar and also effective for dystymia or anxiety like Sulpiride. Amisulpride is the "newer generation Sulpiride". I am sure you can get Amisupride somehow...

I took Sulpiride years ago in the UK, and still have the patient sheet. One statement: "Sulpiride also helps to reduce symptoms such as anxiety and depression. Some people report feeling more comfortable on sulpiride than on any other antipsychotic drugs." Low doses actually had anti-depressant affects. That stuff just used to clear my head up eothout sedation. If only I hadn't developed a serious hormonal problem as a side effect. But it really did save the day.
Maybe try phoning1) a charity like Rethink,01819746814. They could also give you the phne number to a helpline at Maudsely Hospital, where the chemist answers your question about meds.

2) Try an advocate--most regions have one mental health advocate for free wo gives advice about things like this.

It would be neat to know if Japan is still producing it, coz they used to outinel offer it to anxiety/depressed at low doses--and it helped.

You could write the manaufacturer, too--Dolmatil is the tradename. They should have some awnsers too. \\\good luck. \write back when you need to. I have found lithium to help just as much, but I did like my sulpiride. So bring out the cigars.
