I took 9 mg of alprazolam last sunday in order to get a high...not to commit suicide. I already had some DXM in my system, and I apparently took 600 mg of diphenhydramine in my drug-induced state. My mother found me unresponsive and I was rushed to the hospital, in which I was given Narcan (whatever that is) and forced to drink charcoal. I then waited for three days for a bed to become available at a psych hospital. During that time, I was only given Xanax once...0.5 mg. Once I got to the psych hospital, I was prescribed Neurontin because one of their doctor believed I might have a seizure seven to ten days after stopping the Xanax. Another doctor prescribed 1 mg of Klonopin as needed. The first doctor didn't like the idea, and discontinued it. I was made to take 50 mg of Vistaril...an antihistamine. It did nothing for my anxiety one way or the other, and made me sleepy. Does anyone else think cutting off the Xanax completely was a good idea?

In your case, yes. Vistaril is an antihistamine with anti-anxiety properties, it's probably better known as atarax...I think the Neurontin was a wise choice, also. After overdosing on benzodiazepines, you are unlikely to ever get a Dr. to prescribe one again..which may be a good idea.
Er's will give Narcan if a narcotic overdose is known or suspected...it displaces narcotics (antagonist)
Your orignal Dr. didn't like having you take 1mg of Klonopin "as needed" because you had just overdosed on xanax and benedryl... It just doesn't make sense to give you a benzo "as needed" after your misuse of another benzo.

>It isn't a good idea to go cold turkey off Benzos because of the possibility of siezures, but hopefully the Neurontin will prevent that. I guess the doctors haven't got much choice since they can't give Benzos to you anymore. :) What sort of high do you get from Xanax?

Benzos are (in my opinion, I know many doctors disagree) some of the safest treatments for anxiety and panic problems if used correctly.
Addiction, try to come off Paxil and see what
happens.
I have been on Klonopin for quite a while and xanax EMERGENCY ONLY for severe panic attacks.
Taking 9 Xanax will most likely give you about
15-30 muinites of euphoria followed by about 20
hours of deep , possibly unsafe sleep. You could
asphixiate on your own vomit, especially after
mixing other pills into the mix. If you want your
docs to trust you and sincerly want to get better,
dont screw around with your pills. I did when I
was younger, now I know better. Good luck and stay safe!

I forgot, They give Narcan to folks that are usually overdosing on heroin and other things
like morphine, codine etc. I cant remember how
it works but it nearly instantly kills the high
which inturn, returns you to a conscious state. Never had it but have heard stories.

Bullshit. I've withdrawn from both, and Paxil was FAR worse than klonopin. Klonopin was fairly mild and lasted 2 weeks. WD from Paxil lasted almost 4 months and I never wanted to kill myself more. And I had been on Paxil for less time, and at a lower dose.

Well, I suppose like any other drug, it depends on the person...I have been all all the AD's associated with withdrawal, and yes, it was annoying, but after 4 months on 4mg of klonopin, I was almost hospitalized 3 times due to witdrawal (discontinuation). I lost about 15 lbs within a week, had seizures, severe pain (so severe I couldn't stand up, vomiting, hallucinations...I guess that's why they have detox centers for benzos...I have yet to see a detox center for SSRIs...

>Actually, Kolopin withdrawl is worst for most people. About 5% of the population have a gene which gives them extra amounts of the enzyme CYP-2D6 which is used to metabolise Effexor, Paxil & Luvox, this makes them ultra fast metablisers of these drugs & they suffer very badly from withdrawl. So the people who moan loudly about Paxil & Effexor withdrawl are a small minority and should benefit greatly from using Prozac to help taper off.
The other thing that makes Klonopin withdrawl worse is the fact that it can kill you, where as Paxil withdrawl can't.
Cheers,
Panda.

hi there...hepatic metabolism of effexor, for instance, is indeed via the CYP2D6 isoenzyme, although you needn't worry about 1,4-benzodiazepines interfering with clearance: it is far more troublesome if you are taking a tricyclic. now, getting to the heart of the matter, it is absolutely forbidden to go cold-turkey on any benzo or derivative (xanax) in that (as the previous poster stated correctly) this can lead to seizures and, in extreme circumstances, death. taper, taper, taper...chemist
