> I took 9 mg of alprazolam last sunday in order to get a high...not to commit suicide. I already had some DXM in my system, and I apparently took 600 mg of diphenhydramine in my drug-induced state. My mother found me unresponsive and I was rushed to the hospital, in which I was given Narcan (whatever that is) and forced to drink charcoal. I then waited for three days for a bed to become available at a psych hospital. During that time, I was only given Xanax once...0.5 mg. Once I got to the psych hospital, I was prescribed Neurontin because one of their doctor believed I might have a seizure seven to ten days after stopping the Xanax. Another doctor prescribed 1 mg of Klonopin as needed. The first doctor didn't like the idea, and discontinued it. I was made to take 50 mg of Vistaril...an antihistamine. It did nothing for my anxiety one way or the other, and made me sleepy. Does anyone else think cutting off the Xanax completely was a good idea?
In your case, yes. Vistaril is an antihistamine with anti-anxiety properties, it's probably better known as atarax...I think the Neurontin was a wise choice, also. After overdosing on benzodiazepines, you are unlikely to ever get a Dr. to prescribe one again..which may be a good idea.
Er's will give Narcan if a narcotic overdose is known or suspected...it displaces narcotics (antagonist)
Your orignal Dr. didn't like having you take 1mg of Klonopin "as needed" because you had just overdosed on xanax and benedryl... It just doesn't make sense to give you a benzo "as needed" after your misuse of another benzo.
