Is this a panic attack? Anxiety? both?

Posted by HelenInCalif on April 5, 2004, at 3:42:53

I posted earlier this weekend about Trazadone (any advice on that welcome-- will 50-100mg daily help w/ depression or just w/ insomnia?) and want to ask for help on symptoms I'm noticing. Are these panic attack symptoms? Can one have one for several days straight?

I'm sitting here after a weekend of procrastinating. But every time I sit in front of my computer to work, I'm getting a weird sensation. My heart rate goes up- like in nervousness- but I'm used to that. There is also something new.

I'm noticing (and remembering from this past week) that I'm getting odd feelings in my body, especially in my forearms and upper legs. Its hard to describe, but I'll try anyways:

Its sort of a warm feeling. Its a little bit like after a foot's been asleep and then awake again. Its also sort of like a negative version of oxytocin (oxytocin being that chemical released when you have a crush on someone)- sort of a fluttery feeling. Its also vaguely like memories of dreams where you can't move in the dream.

I'm also finding myself somewhat frozen in front of the computer even at work: really, really slow. I'm fairly sure I've got some depression (mentally and physically, although emotionally I'm reasonably happy [unless thinking about work projects or about a big stress from 3 weeks ago]). But this body sensation is new to me.

HI, dont worry about that, i had that when i was on trazaone i was taking the max dose only for a few weeks, i didnt liek that sensation it scared me, i would get it as soon as i took my traz.... some people said it was a panick reaction to it.. i so understand what you describe..

See how it goes for another week or so, if it bothersome then ask for something else.. if you take it for sleep try remeron (mirtazipan) its the best !!

Take care
Regards
Donna

is it like a loss of feeling? I've been taking some clopazeme (sp?) and I'll get this warn, tingling sensation in my leg, with a little loss of feeling. It comes and goes, but is still worrysome.

Note: this is all pre-Trazadone

I'd been getting this new type of nervousness for over a week now. I started taking Trazadone more recently than that. At night, at least, the Trazadone makes it a little better- I am able to sleep without as much of that nervous feeling.

I'm on Remeron, and experience the exact same thing.

More like a loss of energy in those muscles

Its like a combination of tingling with fatigue and warmth. Almost but not quite like if you'd done anerobic exercise and those muscles were oxygen deficient.

It definitely gets worse as I try to work right now: I sit down in front of my computer and my heart rate goes up and my muscles (right now my arms and hands most, but its all over) feel this weird nervousness / stress.

Please help: really bad today... panic attack?

today I'm trying to get some work done and am almost paralyzed by this strange feeling. This has been going on a week, but today seems worse.

Medications-wise I've just started Trazodone (50-100mg/ night), but the weird feeling is many days older than that. I also take ritalin and the BCP-- both of those for years without problems.

I'm also noticing that today the ritalin has had zero impact- I'm just not at all able to concentrate.

Helen, this isn't an area I'm too familiar with, but I was thinking maybe you could search out a major panic attack/anxiety organization and phone them to run some of this stuff by them? You could of course do it online, but some of those symptoms may be harder to uncover and it may just be more calming to ask someone instead. I take it you don't want to contact your doc, at least yet.. You might also try posting at a major mental health board of the type that has threads dedicated to specific disorders. Dr. Bob has some of the major mental health sites on his links page, from which there will be many other links that should get you to a site with an active forum on panic attacks/anxiety....

Best wishes!
