just wondering...i am taking 25mg of seroquel and 100 of lamictal...but the seroquel of course is making me sleep at night which is what they wanted to happen..it is being used for my mood and to help me sleep.....i was getting a good nights sleep and waking up feeling refreshed in the mornings but now..im taking the seroquel at nine thirty and going to bed by ten..and im waking up feeling dog tired..I dont if this means anything but i find it weird being that it is that I was feeling great..and now im really tired. Nine hours of sleep should be enough..I usually get 8-9 hours of sleep a night when I sleep well..and so I dont know why i am feeling this way..Does anyone feel this way on seroquel? 25 mgs is not a lot of seroquel but I dont see why i would be so tired the next day.....just confused...

seroquel's half life is reported to be six hours, so i don't have a clue as to why you're still feeling sedated the next morning. the old standby answer is, of course, that these meds affect us all so differently. i also take 25mg before bed, but do not experience problems waking after nine hours.

I am on a similar regime - 250 mg Lamictal and 25-50 mg Seroquel at night if I need it. I am also experiencing some early morning hangover/dopiness/confusion. I tend to alternate between disturbed and short sleep, and hypersomnia (10-14 hours day) when the inevitable reaction hits or my depression is worse.I don't find the quality of sleep with Seroquel is as good for me as with other meds (klonopin, Imovane/zopiclone or Ambien/zolpidem), so maybe it's lack of the right level of sleep that's leading you to oversleep and still feel tired. I usually take the Seroquel early (as you are anyway) not so much as a "sleeping pill" but as a pre-sleep aid to bring me down to earth when I'm hyper. Then I need clonazepam and/or zopiclone to really get a good night's sleep.
I also wonder about the Lamictal - it has a slight sedative effect followed by activation, both of which could affect sleep. I am experiencing some confusion and memory problems which are known side-effects of Lamictal. Are you taking your Lamictal in a single dose, and when? Try changing your schedule, e.g. if you're taking it at night now, or dividing the dose, try taking whole dose early in the AM; or vice versa. My pdoc says it makes little if any difference to effectiveness whether you dose once or twice a day.
Thank God for coffee - two cups first thing usually gets me past the overnight hangover, and so far the scientists, despite their best efforts, have been unable to prove it's bad for you! There's the jitters of course if you overdo it, but I find that's self-limiting.

I take 175 mg/night of Seroquel for sleep, having started with 100 - I seem to keep needing more and more which I don't like. Furthermore, I've recently had to add some Zyprexa at night (weight gain - ugh!) because 175mg/night of Seroquel doesn't seem to be cutting it.
I know TWO people who each take NINE HUNDRED mg/night of Seroquel for sleep! I'd be DEAD if I took that much. When I was in the hospital and they increased my Seroquel I passed out the next morning while in a group meeting - the extra amount apparently lowered my heart rate and my blood pressure (which is low to begin with).

I liked your post and it was helpful as I am on both Lamictal and Seroquel. When I reached my 200mg dose of Lamictal my Pdoc wanted me to take it in divided doses, 100mg AM and 100mg PM. I plan to ask my Pdoc if it makes any difference whether I take one dose of 200mg in the AM as sometimes forget the evening dose. I have not noticed any sleepiness with it although I am noticing some relief from depression.
I really notice the memory problems along with some confusion. Hope this gets better over time.

Hi Panda,
I have taken anywhere from 6mg to 75mg of Seroquel for sleep. Average of about 1/2 of 25mg (12.5). And I wake up feeling a bit hungover from it - again thank god for coffee. So even at that low dose, I get knocked out and sleep a good solid 8-10 hours on that dose. I'm sensitive so I react to less doses than most. I wouldn't discount your experience. Everyone is different.

I've taken these drugs before, and at first they make me sleepy, then after about a week the sleepiness goes away. I don't think you can use them every nite for sleeping because your body will become immune. Maybe you should try using them, for sleep, only intermittently during the week.

You know, I have wondered that. I am taking it every night because my doctor and therapist want me to but, I was wondering about if i really needed to. I tried not taking it one night and I wasnt able to sleep at all. When i told my doctor that she wasnt too thrilled because she said I should take it every night...but im thinking about asking her again.

Panda:
You've probably seen my posts, but I'm augmenting 150mg of Effexor XR in the morning with 100mg of Seroquel at night for sleep and mood stabilization.
I have to mention at the get-go that Seroquel DOES NOT put me *OUT* at night. what it does is enable me to sleep through the night without as many interuptions as before. I can also sleep longer than 5am if I desire to.
I have not noticed any detremental sedation in the morning, at least after a hot shower and a cup or two of coffee. My moods ARE better; more even and I feel more in control, less apt to snap back at someone.
I figure that since I'm some flavor of BP, plus chronically depressed, this is a good combo for me.
Last week we added generic Adderall and that seems to be going well, 5mg twice a day and now up to 10mg twice a day, 8am and 12pm. Nothing after that because of the possibility of affecting my sleep, which has NEVER been that great. It's no wonder I've been depressed, only getting 5-6 hours each night when I need 7-8...
I've always been a very light sleeper, taking a long time to go to sleep and waking frequently during the night. I now sleep better and FEEL better as a result. It's also psychologically good for me that the Seroquel serves another purpose other than being primarily for sleep. That way I feel better about using it all the time.
I also noticed that Seroquel didn't work for me as a sleep aid at the lower doses; only at 75-100mg.
Both Lamictal and Seroquel are atypical antipsychotics right? Perhaps they are each compounding the effects of the other and that's why you're feeling 'drugged'.

My pdoc was quite definite that _some_ people experience a very fast increase in tolerance to Seroquel for sleep if it's used every night. That doesn't mean you may not need it for other reasons, e.g. to reduce chance of a hypomanic episode.

> Tony PHi again,
Strange that Seroquel for sleep should come up. I have been on 100mgm at bedtime for a couple of years and over the past year along with 10mg of Celexa.. I have gone off the Celexa. Exactly six weeks after the Celexa was discontinued (still taking the Seroquel at bedtime) one night I had the worst time going to sleep I have EVER had (and I am old!) When It happened the second night in a row, I realized that I was extremely restless -- legs moving, tossing and turning, etc. Now, I had this same reaction when taking 200mgm of Seroquel alone way back when I started it. With the celexa/Seroquel combo I dropped like a rock one hour after taking them.
?Akesthesia? I think it is. I went for the warm milk cure the second night and cut the Seroquel in half and every thing was fine. Anyone have any input here?
Oh... I should mention that I typically have an idiosyncratic reaction to a lot of meds....caffine makes me sleepy, klonipin makes me hyper etc.
