> JanejjYES!!! I have had this happen twice. It wasn't from a dream or anything that I know of...I just awakened thinking I was having a heart attack. I was hyperventilating, and my heart must have been beating well over 200 bpm. It felt like 300bpm, but I don't think that's physiologically possible. Anyway, it was beating faster than I've ever felt it, and I couldn't catch my breath. I thought I was dying. It was even painful in my chest. It lasted maybe thirty seconds, but it felt like hours. It was like someone had injected adrenaline straight into my heart.

Sometimes with accompanying OCD thoughts, sometimes without.

Yes, frequently and for no apparent reason, at least not one I could put my finger on!

It happens to me all the time. I suffer from GAD, have been diagnosed with very, very mild sleep apnea. For me, I think it's a combination of choking and panic. It's really quite annoying and no doctor I have been to has a good idea of how to treat it. A lot of shrugged shoulders and "just try sleeping on your side." I think it also has to do with my crappy lowered neurotransmitter levels, because I don't have the panic/chocking when I take any of the SSRI meds.

I had the panic attacks in my sleep before my apnea was treated. Choking for dear life can do that to you!
