this is embarassing but oh well
I've been having GI problems lately, and I'm on a bunch of meds, but I noticed that when I open the wellbutrin bottle, it smells bad so I thought maybe it's the culprit?
anyone else have this side effect from Wellbutrin?
anyone have suggestions for a remedy?
I'm sooooooo sick of meds right now I just wanna get off all of em and see what happens, but that would be unco-operative or something... pfft
the side effects depress me enough to where I don't know if it's better or not on the meds
I worry all the time about what they're doing to my body and the next time I can't think of a word like "throw" I'm gonna scream
anyway......thanks for any help

I'm sorry I don't have anything enlightening to say, but when I took Welbutrin the pills never had a bad smell. I'm wondering if somehow you got a bad batch??? I know these meds can mess with your stomach, SSRI's have certainly messed with mine. But Welbutrin was not to be the culprit in my case. Good luck SoS, sorry I couldn't be more help.

Thanks Kara
I've actually noticed this smell since I started taking wellbutrin...geez I don't even know how long ago, but like a year...the GI problem is kind of new but it doesn't correlate with anything changing (like diet, or new meds)
anyway, thank you

Are you taking the Wellbutrin SR? When I first started on the SR, I noticed it had an odor (when I stuck my nose near the bottle - now why would I have done that?!?) I did ask the pharmacy about it, and they said it was ok, that's how the drug is. Maybe it has something to do with the sustained release coating? You might want to check with your pharmacy. While I haven't had any GI problems with Wellbutrin, I do know some people who have.

All the Wellbutrin SR that I have ever had have smelled like rotten egs or sulphur. The non SR Welbutrin had no smell at all. You are not losing your mind nor did you get a bad batch nor I'm afraid is it causing the gas problem. Do you eat a lot of brocoli?

I guess the consensus is that Welbutrin SR does have a bad smell. I only used regular release. Well at least you can be assured it's not just you. Take care.

hehe fuji no I don't
I've heard that can cause it
What about trileptal, clonazepam, and synthroid? those are the other medications I'm on
other than that I take fish oil, calcium and a multi-vitamin
I eliminated dairy for a bit and that's not it either
has anyone heard of soda causing GI problems? it never has before and that's the only thing I eat/drink every day....
my personal feeling is that my medications have sort of built up in my body and they're just not really good for me (on a physical level)
anyway, thanks for your responses
and I'd just like to add that it's not a horrible problem and like....I'm not that smelly kid from charlie brown or anything :D
thanks

Hi SoS--
Noa and several other posters here have posted about "fish oil burps". And, sodas are a well known source of stomach distress. The carbonic, citric and phosphoric acids they contain all lower stomach pH. (Phosphoric acid in sodas is particularly harmful; it acts as a binder to calcium, which reduces the absorption of that mineral from the intestines and leaches it out of tooth enamel, destroying that protective coating over time.) And, the caffeine and high fructose corn syrup in some sodas cause stomach problems for many.
Perhaps, your fish oil and sodas are producing an unwelcome synergy? Eliminating soda intake for a couple of weeks and then resuming your normal consumption would test that hypothesis.
A lot of attention has been focused on side effects of prescription Rxs, and deservedly so. But, many commonly available, unregulated substances we ingest without thinking can do much more damage. For example, far more livers have been done in by Tylenol than by Serzone.
Good luck in pinpointing the offender/s.---medlib

thanks medlib
I've been kind of wondering if soda might have something to do with it as it's the only thing (besides meds) I didn't cut out, but now I guess I'll have to :(
it's just a semi-recent thing and I have been faithful to my soda for a long time, and since the wellbutrin smelled funny....well ya
anyway thank you and I'll try it
