im on 10 mgs of lexapro 7th week with only 2.5 mg's of diazapam 2 X's a day my anxiety is gone , and i was bad anxiety person, for exampl i missed only one day of medicine and i felt anxiety come back, so it proved meds are working,hope this helps you anxiety searching people ,good luck
ps LEX was slow it did take a full 6 weeks to get 100% working give it time side effects NONE! so far,just sleepy and anxious in the start

Do you think the Lex is working or the addition of the Valium ?? I know it's a low dose. I use a low dose benzo and it was the only thing that seemed to work for me. All the SSRI's just made anxiety alot worse - that was my experience. I'm glad things are better for you. Did the anxiety really go away after you added the benzo ??? I just wondered your thoughts.

just curious does anyone have anxiety that u'r heart rate goes up and down>? can u acutally feel it pounding? i had an echo done, and my pulse went to 189 193 179 then came back down, the echo tech, said are u nervous, i said always..... does everyones else anxiety like this????? im not depressed just a nervous wreck all the time i could feel my heart start to race the moment i think of something.......... my doc gave me effexor xr, and i take ativan.... i should take the ativan more then i do, but i try to tuff it out.... but im wondering now if im toughing it out with my heart, my doc asked me if i really get that anxious for my heart rate to go up that high, i said all the time...... hes going to put a 24hr heart monitor on when i feel im in a stressful situation........... we shall see, but if anyone could share there anxiety stories would be appreciated, thanx........ (oh yeah and i always feel like im having a heartattack) :)

this was before i started the effexor, cause i asked the nurse, i was wondering if my heart rate was causing me to go into anxiety, or was it my anxiety causeing my heart rate to go up, so i asked for something for anxiety.......

hey guys.... i suffer from 2 different extreme anxiety disorders... first i tried the effexor and that night was the worst night of my life.. i was up all night and my heart raced that whole time, i ended up in the hospital for 2 days because of my racing heart...because it raced for so long my heart released a chemical that is does when you have a heart attack.ll.this never happened before effexor, so i hear ya about the heart racing being a problem.. i am now on beta blockers and lexapro, and they both are miracle workers, ask your doc about a beta blocker... my heart raced for 2 days straight but the beta blocker "toprol" i am on worked within a day...good luck and God bless... i know how horrid everything with anxiety, depression, and starting new meds can be ; )

first answer about valium on lex without cvalium (diazapm) im super anxiuos so for right now week 7 im going to say I need to take both lex + diazaopam, as for effexor racing heart , not me im on lex and valium so my anxiety never realy gave a speedy heart rate, hope your OK be safe and make sure you get enough potasium its good to make the heart strong bannanas O.-juice etc..

Yes, I do just take a benzo for my anxiety. I did try the SSRI's initially, I could not tolerate them. I know many that use a combo like you're using. I simply couldn't tolerate the side effects and it didn't help the anxiety. All I use is Klonopin. My dose is very low. It works for me. I had been looking at your postings and what I noticed is the use of the Valium was when you said your anxiety was better. Perhaps it is the Lex kicking in. If that was the case and the Lex is stopping the excess anxiety, the benzo wouldn't be needed - this is only my opinion. I'm really for the responible and monitored use of benzo's. I think they work really well and are well tolerated and, despite their bad reputation, truly cause few problems for people who use them for anxiety control. If you have an underlying depression, that's another story and the treatment is geared to both. Some will argue that depression and anxiety go hand in hand, I don't believe that is always the case. IF anxiety is the REAL problem, as it was for me, the use of a benzo by itself can certainly be an option. This is merely my findings, you do what is right for you and decide with your doctor. I am glad things are better for you - I know times were rough for you for a while. I hope your progress continues. Best of Luck.

Increased heart rate and pounding heart rate are pretty hallmark findings of anxiety. The rate as high as you describe, is pretty high. Mine usually doesn't get over 110 or so. I had the high heart rate and pounding when my anxiety was really bad. I also went through the stress echo, too. Have you researched anxiety symtoms? You may get some peace of mind to know the signs and symptoms. Are you big on the caffeine thing or smoking ?? A good book is "The Anxiety Disease". It's not a fun disorder and there are many weird and uncomfortable phyical symptoms. I recommend getting as much info as you can from good sources and have good communication with your Dr.

well its not good to think there is someone else like me, but it sure helps mentally,hahahaha im a very nervous anxious person, usually my strong anxiety attack months are start up say november to come to a slowdown march/april, i worry about eveything..... i have ativan, but not quit sure how to take it...... i dont take it regularly only when i feel i despretely need it, im now takeing effexor xr, tues. will be two weeks... its not really helping just yet... but i asked for something for the anxiety cause i couldnt take the body rushes anymore (heart beat palpatations)......... how about u?

i quit smoking in november and i gave up caffine 1997. i feel i was a healthier smoker.... :)_
i am going to look into that book tho... thanks alot......... :)

You are very welcome. The book is slightly older, but info is really good. Another good one that deals with cognative behavioral therapy and has good checklists for symptoms and such is David Burns "Feeling Good Handbook". You maybe able to find both at the library or new/used from Amazon. I did find both really informative and helpful. Sometimes one can feel so alone and isolated with these weird reactions !!!

Tammy thats what heppened with me too, I had the palputations first, when I wasnt anxious or stressed, or so I didnt think. Then I started to get anxious and was put on beta blockers but they didnt work, then I got depressed about it all, and more anxious so I got on SSRI but they happened to cause me more anxiety and palputations, so I had to quit, now Im on TCA and slowly I believe getting better.. For the times of unbearable anxiety I had Valium........ I hope effexor works for you, but just remember that if it doesnt there are loads more meds that will so dont loose hope! Good Luck........

i truly believe im not depressed but i am anxiuos man since i was a little kid i had this problem ANXIETY it wasnt untill age 32 that i found out what was wrong doctors would joke and say i was a kid with ants in the pants ,ha ha ha , i would tell my parents its worse than that agoraphobia etc..,now Im not a dr but after paxil backfire and now lexapro anxiety daily ,i gotta tell my doc. the only time i feel good is on diazapam,tell me does anyone feel worse in the morning I call it AM Anxiety?,but thabks for your write backs Ill keep you posted ,stay well thanks

I have been on Lex 10mg for a week now and am very tired- like could sleep 24hrs a day and I am very depressed also. Did you experience this? How severe and how soon did it go away? Thanks.
