Tina, Trazadone is essentially a sleeping pill. So drunk and disoriented, yeah, probably... but 25mg is a low dose. I used to take 100mg at night to get a good night's sleep. I've never experienced any stomach discomfort on Trazadone though.

it's very sedating, I hope you take it before bed. digestive disorders, seems like all meds can cause that. I also got pounding heart from it, even on a low dose (don't remember what)

I took Trazodone for sleep a while back, if I got up during the night i would stumble around !
I found that it greatly increased my appetite.
I was warned that it could cause GI problems and to always take it with food as a result.

Drunk Disoriented... yeah thats about what I felt like. It was supposed to sedate me, but it felt more to me like a giant hand was pressing itself on top of my head. (Well thats what it felt like!)
Oh and the G.I effects were just AWFUL, worse
than just about any medication I've taken.
Actually I took it with Effexor, it seems to be a really popular combination these days and I think they compounded each others side effects.

Disorientation is one of the major side effects of Trazodonen(for some people). Had two family members on it, at different times, and both immediately went into the twilight zone of competency.

that's just how it felt for me.. eventually I couldn't do that to myself anymore, night after night, taking a pill that made me feel bad. scared, sick, paralyzed, pounding heart. yuck! what an awful way to fall asleep every night.
I found one that was even worse. Doxepin. all docs who use old-school ADs as sleep meds should be forced to endure the experience themselves for a nice long time. Can you tell I just had a bad med trial? well I did.

Many many years ago, I took trazodone as an AD for about 6 months. It was quite sedating, but taking it at night helped and I got more used to it. I took trazodone for a while, but stopped as I started to feel better from therapy, etc.
A number of years went by before I tried ADs again (SSRIs). At some point when I was taking either Paxil or Effexor (current med), I started taking small dose trazodone for sleep, to counter the activating effects of the Paxil/Effexor. But when I started to need more AD effect, and it became clear that I wasn't tolerating higher doses of Effexor, my pdoc suggested stopping the trazodone, and switching to Serzone, which could be both the sleep med and an additional AD for me. I think this is when Serzone first came out? Not sure.

Actually, I took Doxepin as an AD and then just as a sleep med and LOVED it, for many years.

thanks for all the great replies everybody. I told the doc what the traz was doing to me and she took me off of it and increased my effexor dose. I'm seeing her again next week and we'll go from there. At least I really feel this doc is listening and when i gave her my usual "speech" about ....maybe I'm just not busy enough, or maybe I'm analysing myself too much.....she said "no, I believe there is justification for medication and you shouldn't let anyone tell you that it's just your imagination"
Man, do I like this doctor. I don't feel guilty or like I'm wasting her time. she's great.
So are all of you. What a wealth of info and I never feel like my reactions to meds are weird because there's always someone here who has had the same thing happen to them. I don't feel alone and that's nice.
thanks all
all the best to each and every one of you

just started traz (50 mgs) for insomnia and it's working pretty good...very vivid dreams...so far that's good too. Also taking Paxil (20) and Buspar (20). I cut my Paxil from 80, because of annoying side effects. Thanks.

Hey Everyone,
I have used trazodone twice for sleep, once in combo with imipramine/lithium and second in combo with nardil. Both times after about 2 months, the antidepressant effect AND side effects (sexual dysfunction, low libdo, etc.) wore off. After stopping the trazodone, the meds worked again.
This happen to anyone else?

I will try anything to get rid of the sex issues with paxil...that's why I am phasing it out and adding Buspar and traz....someone in the group here told me the buspar helps with sex/libido/anorgasmia issues and the traz definitely helps with sleep. Thanks for the chat.
