Many many years ago, I took trazodone as an AD for about 6 months. It was quite sedating, but taking it at night helped and I got more used to it. I took trazodone for a while, but stopped as I started to feel better from therapy, etc.
A number of years went by before I tried ADs again (SSRIs). At some point when I was taking either Paxil or Effexor (current med), I started taking small dose trazodone for sleep, to counter the activating effects of the Paxil/Effexor. But when I started to need more AD effect, and it became clear that I wasn't tolerating higher doses of Effexor, my pdoc suggested stopping the trazodone, and switching to Serzone, which could be both the sleep med and an additional AD for me. I think this is when Serzone first came out? Not sure.
