I am taking Nardil and twice now have eaten sour cream with an odd result. Both times i experienced mild nausea and inability to fall asleep that night. Am i a head case or could this be a mild form of a reaction to tyramine? Thanks for any thoughts you may have about this, as i have only been on the restricted diet for 6 wks and have lots of questions.

Possibly...most hypertensive reactions are mild. Sour cream is generally considered fine, but you may be sensitive.
look at this link, it has a lot of info on tyramine content

Did you experience diaphoresis, tachycardia, and actual BP increase. This doesn't sound like a tyramine reaction to me...

Thanks djmmm, for the info. Being new to this i didnt realize that most episodes are mild, but imagined a screaming headache and other dramatic symptoms with any/all episodes. And thank you, too, ace. I enjoy your posts and responses on both this site and at the maoi group on yahoo.

Hypertension is considered to be a 'silent' disease as there's no noticable symptoms unless your blood pressure is extremely high. If you had a mild hypretensive episode, you probaby wouldn't notice anything. Perhaps you could buy a blood pressure cuff & monitor to check yourself from time to time. They're relatively inexpensive & easy to use.
