I take 30 mg at night for sleep and although it gets me through the night, it does nothing for my daytime anxiety and depression.

Remeron has literally given me my life back after this last bout of depression which lasted 2 yrs. It works great for my depression but I will admit, it does little for anxiety, I am taking clonazepam for that. I have had very few side affects in the 10 1/2 mos I've been on it. I have been on Sinequan, Anafranil, Prozac, Paxil and Effexor XR, Amitiptyline (sp)in the past 14 yrs. The two best meds for me were the Paxil and the Remeron. The paxil was discontinued due to visual problems. Hope this helps.

I took it for 10 weeks and recently stopped because it was not working very well. I felt very dry on it, and didn't enjoy doing the things I normally do. Long story short, it worked some, but definitely didn't cut it. Others praise it as to have worked wonders, so mileage varies as with all antidepressants. Good luck!

This is my first post in ages.
I just started taking it again after being off for 10 months. I had gotten to a point with CBT that allowed me to survive quite well (with only trazodone) in a normal job and life, but then med school started, and I just wasn't competitive enough with depression/fibro/ADD.
I will tell you honestly why I wanted to stay away from the drug: I gained a ton of weight, and didn't like being so heavily sedated at night. I went from 130 to 165 in about 4 months. I just finally dropped all the weight and am down to ~125 (I'm 5'5").
I am now taking Adderall with it, and I can't say with certainty (this only being day 1) but it looks like they may balance each other out quite well. In the past I'd only added Ritalin and it didn't keep me from binging.
If you've tried everything else (or really want to try it), give Rem a shot. It was my last-ditch effort after all the SSRIs, Wellbutrin, and Serzone, and it was wonderful. I can honestly say that it really contributed to getting through a post-bacc pre-med program, and into med school.I think the biggest problem (aside from the s/e) was the need to increase dosing after stressful events (finals etc). I got up to 90mg/night and couldn't find anything to break through that last depression until I started CBT.
I think that meds can help get us through rough times, but the best thing we can do is get into therapy and gain the skills that will lessen our need for meds (handling stress better= less depression/ anxiety).

I tried it twice and didn't like it generally. It is SO antihistaminic I can't mentally function on it during the day. I also got very irritable with it (and gained a lot of weight).
Good points: Sleep is likely to be very solidly predictable (wonderful if you are having major insomnnia problems). Much less likely to cause sexual dysfunction than most other AD's. If you are suffering anorectic symptoms of depression (weight loss, lack of appetite), it can do wonders for helping you find the refrigerator and eating properly (if you aren't already doing so). It seems to be helpful for some with panic/phobia symptoms or GAD symptoms.
Bad points: Possible major weight gain if you don't need or want it. Cognitive problems (focus-concentration-memory) can be quite severe in susceptible people. Irritability possible.

It has an unique mechanism of action. So I consider Remeron as an valuable addition to current pool of medications, altough I never tried it.
