In reply to Remeron a good drug?, posted by killerdice on October 17, 2002, at 8:05:00
> I spoke to my pdoc yesterday about Remeron, she said it has not been effective in her patients. I see much good praise on this board.. Could you people pls give the good and bad reports on this drug.. I was thinking of trying it... thanks
I tried it twice and didn't like it generally. It is SO antihistaminic I can't mentally function on it during the day. I also got very irritable with it (and gained a lot of weight).
Good points: Sleep is likely to be very solidly predictable (wonderful if you are having major insomnnia problems). Much less likely to cause sexual dysfunction than most other AD's. If you are suffering anorectic symptoms of depression (weight loss, lack of appetite), it can do wonders for helping you find the refrigerator and eating properly (if you aren't already doing so). It seems to be helpful for some with panic/phobia symptoms or GAD symptoms.
Bad points: Possible major weight gain if you don't need or want it. Cognitive problems (focus-concentration-memory) can be quite severe in susceptible people. Irritability possible.
