has anyone experienced euphoria on nardil... i do everyday .. im taking it for social phobia.. im just wondering how rare it is to have euphoria with nardil... thanks

It's not unusual, enjoy it. As I was on the drug longer and longer, it came on less. Or maybe I got used to being healthy. It was still a gift though.
A lot of pdocs get very uncomfortable if the patients feel too good, (my god, she must be hypomanic!) so I wouldn't rave about it too much unless you know your guy is cool.
Euphoria is hard to quantify so I've always wondered if I was in some special state or just not really sick and depressed for the first time. Being well is mighty joyous in its own right.Miss Liz

Was wondering if you had any weight gain with Nardil, and if it was as good as you say it was why
aren't you still taking it? I am considering taking it and I want to feel NORMAL. But, I

I experienced euphoria or euthymia or "really adequate-feeling" when my Prozac was increased to 40mg. It wasn't hypomania. I was calm, not energized. I wasn't even necessarily "happy," but able to concentrate well, work without despairing, empathize with others, and even feel a little sadness (very different than depression). It was the Best.
After two days it went away.
Sounds like it happens on MAOIs (nardil), too.
I read something by a pdoc saying that it's common on SSRIs, but that it's brief and once it goes away can't be replicated.Any other experiences out there? (I want it BACK.)

I want it back too! I had that on Paxil earlier this year. Laughing for no reason (as if we needed a reason), I actually felt happy for once instead of depressed.

I'm a man and have been on Nardil for over 11 years. I experience weight gain on 45 mgs, but that unfortunate side effect dissappears for me when on only 30 mgs. The critical dosage may be different for you. I control the weight gain with diet and excersize. The euphoria mentioned earlier usually goes away with time. Nardil has been the silver bullet that gave me back a NORMAL life!

I took about 60 mg of nardil for years and was high as a kite - best years of my life. That effect began to wear off; the side-effects worsened and the drug lost its efficacy. I know take Parnate and experience some relief from social anxiety but none of the euphoria. It is a "gift" as a prior poster said if it comes from within and sheds inhibition to bring up a newer and/or truer self. I think that was largely the case for me. phil.

To answer your question, yes/no/maybe. It will probably help you to know that I am male. Initially I did gain more than ten pounds. In fact, when I was originally on 45 mgs for many years I went from about 140 lbs to 175 lbs. After a couple of months on a low-fat diet, I lost most of it. Later I reduced to 30 mgs and dropped my weight to 135 lbs. I was too skinny at that time and could eat whatever I wanted without any weight gain. For me dosages seem to cause a light-switch effect with regard to weight just as they do with regard to effectiveness. At the moment I'm taking 45 mgs. I excersize, eat right and am happy at about 165 lbs. It's more than ideal, but THANK GOD FOR NARDIL!!!

My experience with Nardil is virtually identical to yours, however the time frame was compressed to six months from start to finish, not years as was your experience. I tried it again some 3+ years later and I did not experience the euphoria and freedom from inhibitions that I originally had. Those six months were the absolute greatest of my life. Unfortunately, I tried just about ever other medication out there and nothing came close to the efficacy of Nardil
Lately, some fifteen years after my original experience with Nardil, I've thought about giving it a shot again and perhaps supplementing with another agent. I just don't know with what at this point.

Did you try to taper up to 75 mg or 90mg?
Or were the side effects to bad? I am surprised I haven't experienced any s/e's..
