Every so often I just get sideswiped by a really, really bad day. The kind of day when I feel like I am f***ing up my children and f***ing up everything else in life. Sometimes there is a rational place in the back of my mind that tells me just hang on and I'll wake up feeling better tomorrow. Sometimes the rational part agrees with the f***ing up.
I've only been aware of/dealing with my depression for a few years. I talk to my Mom a lot about things, because she's been living with this kind of thing for much longer. You guys seem so experienced, for lack of a better word, with this kind of thing. How do you keep hanging on, on the really, really bad days?

First I would suggest maybe posting on the social board- but personally I get a lot of support from my therapist and psychiatrist- through phone calls and e-mails if it is an emergency. Other ways is to just get outside and move- walk, run- get those endorphins going. Take care, Judy

I second judyl's good suggestions. I would also add that if you have supportive, blithesome friends, going
out with them, if you can, might be pleasant: perhaps seeing a movie, a comedy, or merely a nice meal out. In my
own experience, getting oneself out of doors, say in a park, is important, especially if one lives or works in
a, shall we say, sterile environment. I find vigorous outdoor exercise far superior to simply walking. Though
walking through a park or even the neighbourhood helps, if I am plunged in the depths of woe, I tend to obsess.
When jogging for an hour or so, my delapidated body is so exhausted I don't have time for fixations! And there
are all the added advantages of strenuous activity - mental as well as physical.Best wishes,
Mr Beev
