I am having a HORRIBLE time with INSOMNIA - I cannot fall asleep much before 2-3 am, which then causes me to have to sleep till like noon the following day. I want to *fix* my body clock and had taken Seroquel awhile back for a short time and found it VERY sedating at a *mere* 50 mg. Within a short time of taking it I became woozy, drowsy, had to go to bed and fell asleep pronto.
I'm concerned about adding it to quite a cocktail I'm already on: EffexorXR 150 mg, Klonopin 1mg, Lamictal (in the process of titrating up to the hundreds) and Zyprexa 2.5 mg.
I think that Seroquel is in the same med class as Zyprexa so I'm most concerned about taking both of those at the same time. If I do add Seroquel I'd start with only 25 mg since 50 seemed too much for me (I am sensitive to meds).
The Zyprexa was prescribed for calming and to help me sleep but 2.5 and even 5 does nothing for sleep and 7.5 was too much (it was backfiring and getting me more depressed which I've heard can happen cuz if it makes you sluggish and lethargic like it made me).
So, what do folks here think - would it be okay/safe for me to add a bit of Seroquel to my mix and see if it helps me fall asleep earlier at night so I can wake at an earlier hour in the morning? Thanks.

I was once on Seroquel for insomnia. I still have problems sleeping even on the new medicine I'm taking, Zyprexa 5mg; I've only been taking it for about 3.5 - 4 weeks. Anyhow, if helped you in the past I don't see why you cannot start taking it again. I do recall that Seroquel was very sedating. Unfortunately, the drug made me twich a lot. My left leg would start moving on it's own - not good in my opinion. Speak with your doctor soon so you can begin to get back on on a normal sleeping schedule. Best wishes.

I absolutely depend on Seroquel for sleep. This doesn't thrill me, but eventually I came to look on it as I do the hypertension medicine I take every day. Without medicine to keep my blood pressure down, I'm a candidate for stroke or other unpleasantries. Without Seroquel, I'm an insomniac, and my anxiety level rises proportionately to the lack of sleep.
I take 400 mg every night. It took me weeks to adjust to this dosage - before that, I was lethargic and kind of dopey, but the Seroquel has an edge on other sleeping aids: not only am I going to sleep at a decent hour and staying asleep for 8 hours, I get up in the morning like a normal person without being groggy. This is a new phase in my life, as I've suffered regularly from insomnia since I was a teenager.
It takes time to adjust to the stuff, just like a lot of other psychiatric medications, but you do eventually adjust. I don't know about adding it to the other meds you're taking, though...your doc has to determine that.

Its not smart to use atypical anti-psychotics for things like insomnia, anxiety if you are not psychotic. Your leg twitching on the Seroquel was either some EPS or restless legs most and is a bad sign. There are many, many, many other meds besides atypical anti-psychotics to use for insomnia.

If you were to add anything I may consider Neurontin (just to get you going with an anticonvulsant as you dose onto the Lamictal).maybe 300 mg 3x day.
I wouldn't touch the seroquel for sleep. For starters you reacted violently to the medicine and didn't like it the first time, that's a ding against it today. You don't want to be on meds like that. If your mood cycles, you'll regret it later.
Neurontin is a mild stabilizer with antianxiety properties and mild sedation for some. may be worth looking at. Won't jolt your body.
Just a thought.
