Folks,
We are having an interesting discussion above on alcohol as a med.
I'd like to know if anyone has any information on what alcohol does to you if you are on these meds for a long-term. My current combo is Celexa, WellbutrinSR, and Klonopin. What are the long-term destructive effects (if any) if I have a drink or two every now and then? (I usually share a bottle of wine with some coworkers once a week. Actually we've missed the past three weeks.)
I have to say that I really feel no need to drink. I'm just concerned because I do like an occasional glass of wine or beer with my dinner. I love how the taste enhances the pleasure of the taste of the meal. I might do this once a week.
So, does anyone have any info on whether or no alcohol damages you while you are on such medication for the long haul?
Thanks in advance,
Simcha.

As you read above, I don't follow what I read, but I have a recent CME packet here stating that even a few drinks can slow recovery from depression or cause treatment resistant depression. I think if your doing fine and have an occasional drink as you say you should be okay. My drinking pattern opens up more questions.

I don't know about long-term use and alcohol, but I asked my doctor if I could have a couple of light beers in the evening. (I happen to drink light beer, I don't know if the alcohol content is different from regular beer). He said to try to keep it to one. I don't actually drink every day, but with all the negatives created by the drugs I take I feel I'm entitled to something. I'm taking a TCA, a benzo and an SSRI, among other things.
