Has anyone any experience / knowledge to share re Wellbutrin in treating addiction to over-the-counter drugs? I know it's been used for stopping smoking, but haven't seen much so far about help with other drugs.
I just started today on Wellbutrin after 6 years on Serzone. The latter worked wonderfully for me for several years, but I seemed to be reaching a point of diminishing returns. Part of my problem is an off-and-on addiction to Robaxin, the muscle relaxant. My doc & I are hoping that the Wellbutrin will both improve my depression ("kick-start" was the word he used) and reduce my desire to self-medicate.

The only thing I've ever heard is what you already mentioned; Wellbutrin is marketed as Zyban for help stopping smoking.
However, you mentioned that you were on SERZONE for six years and I'm contemplating trying that a-d. Just how SEDATING was it for you? Did it get you to sleep at night? If so, was there a hangover effect the next morning? (or perhaps you took it in the am)?? Any feedback on your experience with SERZONE would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Janelle,
I'd be happy to share lots of details on my "life with Serzone" with you and the BB. I've posted a few message here in the past year, but none really covering the whole experience. But I think I'll start a separate thread as I'm likely to write quite a lot. Look for "Serzone - Long Term"
Feel free to email me as well.

i was on serzone a few months before switching to wellbutrin. i really liked the serzone and after adjusting i also really like the wellbutrin. it feels basically the same to me. the only major difference is that i took serzone at bedtime because of the sleepy factor (i experienced no hangover effect in the morning.... i took no other doses during the day because even 50mg made me sleepy during the day so i took 350mg all at once at night which i've heard is pretty common.) and the wellbutrin is activating so that it's necessary to not take it too late in the day. so for me, same effect, but seemingly opposites in the sleepy-factor. good luck to you both. -terra

Thanks, Terra
I also took my Serzone all at night (300-500 mg. depending on time of year). Tried dividing it during the day on the high dose, as I've been having trouble getting up in the AM, but didn't want to be sedated at work. The technical monograph (i.e. the info from the drug co) suggests that Serzone is better absorbed the more you take at once, so I also figured taking the whole day's dose at night was either more effective or more economical, depending on your point-of-view!
Anyhow, I am now on Day 4 of Wellbutrin and finding the switch pretty difficult - I'm really hyper and anxious. Hoping I will settle into it quickly - I didn't expect it to work quite so fast, or maybe I would have taken a week or two to come off the Serzone first!
I will post more about my Serzone experience soon, as I've probably used it about as long as anyone, but it was turning into a major essay, so I had to stop - I'll edit it offline, then maybe I can cut it down to a reasonable size for posting!
