I would like to hear from people who have tried all three of these meds for ADD and/or depression and/or excessive daytime sleepiness and how they responded to them. I have been diagnosed with depression and sleep apnea and have tried I have tried all three. Ritalin was awful. Adderall and Provigil both helped, but Adderall was better for me. Even though I have a doctor's prescription for Adderall, I am concerned because it is a controlled substance.

> Hi--
I take adderall for ADD with no problems, as do the majority of adults I know
with ADD. What are your concerns about adderall's status as a controlled substance?

Stimulants like Adderall were the first antidepressants... they are still viable options for sufferers.

Lilly,
I have tried all three and found Adderall to provide the best lift from depression, excessive daytime sleepiness and concentration difficulty. There is also not the "crash" involved with Ritalin.
Since you are concerned about the "controlled substance" issue, I think the most important thing is not to increase the dose on your own, thinking "more is better." I never found it necessary to increase the dose. I am coming off it now because of less need for it with the mood stabilizers working (I am bipolar) and finding the titration downward to be very smooth and easy.
