Hi.
I am on my second week of buspar, and the side effects are anything but fun. For about 2 hours after I take it I am all tingles and shakes and, well, anxious! I am willing to tough it out if the thing will work, but I wonder if anyone has any comments about how long these side effects will continue.
I would have just stuck with good old clonopin, which I have gotten relief from for almost four years, but I am afraid that now, when I am in "crisis", I will start to enter the land of "its not working anymore unless I mega dose".
Everyone says that it is not for the anxieties of daily living...
What, may I ask. IS???
thanks!-------------------------------------------------------

Werther - Stick with the Bu-Spar for another week or two. I know that these start-up side effects are a pain, but they usually do resolve in 2 to 3 weeks and the anti-anxiety activity does keep increasing for 4 to 6 weeks. I use to think that Bu-Spar was crap, but, if given a chance (ie an 8 week trial) it seems to work in many people. It is because it doesn't have the "instant" effect and the psychomotor side effects of clonazepam, that many people think it doesn't work.
Hang in there and give it a chance (easy to say when you're not in the middle of it, huh). - Cam

> -------------------------------------------------------Hi.
Perhaps you can remain on Klonopin and use Xanax and propanalol for acute anxiety episodes and panic attacks respectively. It doesn't seem that Buspar is treating you too well. I am not sure if your "startup" anxiety indicates eventual nonresponse or whether this is something that often happens early on, but that might still result in a good response later on. From what I have read of other people's experiences, your startup anxiety is not a good sign that Buspar is the right drug for you.
I am no expert and have no personal experience with Buspar. Wait for other people to comment before doing anything.
Good luck.

I was on Buspar for several months & it worked well for anxiety... It does take 4 to 6 weeks to tell how it will do. There is no abrupt change at onset. Anxiety just gradually fades out.
There is also no boost as occurs with acute use of Xanax or Klonopin & That is something many of us miss... The euphoric effect is not the same as the antianxiety effect.
I chose to stop it because of GI side effects... multiple daily loose BMs & excessive flatus...
Were it not for that, I would still take it...

> Thank you all so much for responding. I never expected a nice, mellow feel during buspar therapy, but I sure thought the dizziness would go away after a week. I guess I will tough it out for a bit longer.
These meds confirm the truism that each person is a world in him/herself...
