Has anyone tried Concerta for ADD? How does it compare to Adderal, Ritalin, and Dexedrine?
Thanks for the Info

Yes.
It is Ritalin, so nothing too new there.
Adderal never worked for me.
Dexedrine was too speedy.
Concerta has a very smooth delivery and works well for me.
No big crunch when it comes on and less rebound as it wears off.
Spendy though.

Thanks for the information. What doseage are you taking? Did you ever try Ritalin SR? Is Concerta anything like it?

Thanks,
Lynne

hi- my p-doc says it's supposed to be a better, cheaper ritalin sr. he says from his thus far limited experience with patients, it really is
Basically, it's more potent than ritalin sr but equal in potency to the regular ritalin. it also has more staying power and lacks the ups and downs of ritalin sr. so it's really what a ritalin sr ought to be but isn't. it's also cheaper than ritalin but not cheaper than regular generic ritalin. he said to me, "If ritalin is your drug, you might want to try it." but he said it offers no advantage over the other cns stimulants.

Dear Lynne,
My daughter, now fifteen is on it, after years of inattentive attention deficit disorder. She is much happier, as her school work no longer takes from 8:30 a.m. 'til 11:00 p.m. without getting done. It is ritalin delivered with the highest sustained release techonology available. The delivery is smooth. The once daily dosing truly is that. The rebound seems to be non existent. My daughter still doesn't like algebra, but I don't think any claims are made in in that regard.
She is happy to be on it and we are sorry we did not get her treated much earlier.

Blessings,

Chris A.

Yes I like the SR. I even have use for and
need of the straight plain old Ritalin 20mg sometimes, but it is abrupt and I don't like feeling medicated (recovery 18 years).
Concerta is actually a little machine. It is the shape of a tictac with flatend ends. It is coated with Ritalin. The outer coating of Ritalin is quickly disolved and absorded. What remains is a plastic gizmo that takes in water ozmodically as it travels down your gut. As it takes on water a tiny diaphram inside expands and dispenses Ritalin evenly, smoother and longer duration than SR. You eliminate the remains. (I've never been aware of it.) Crazy high-tech little pill. I was told that it even sqeezes out a little more in the afternoon than in the morning to counter the P.M. slump. I forget what the doses are, its odd, like 18, 36 and soon to be 54. I think I take the 36's. The outer coating is 7mgs or something and the rest is the extended release.
Just FYI I have worked up a cocktail with my biological psychiatrist. Prozac, Ritalin and Pindalol. The Pindalol seem to be the catalyst (for me anyway) that makes it all work, with out it I'm at a dead stall. It took me years to arrive at this. I would not recomend it to anyone as all these psychactive drugs are so idiosynchratic, but it is a godsend for me.

Interesting about the way the Concerta works--my pdoc was trying to explain it to me, too.

Is it really plastic? Or some sort of soluble food-based material that is plastic-like?
