I am not the best person to respond, and hopefully others will chime in about meds for anxiety.

But out of curiosity, is there any seasonal component to your anxiety? Is it worse in the winter?

I can only just imagine what living in minimal light would be like.

I think if you can find some sunshine somewhere
that might be helpful. I also swim indoors and sit
in a jacuzzi four days a week. I also take Zoloft.

You may want to ask your doctor about trying a Benzodiazapine for your GAD. They complement the SSRI's and work directly against the symptoms of GAD/PAD. Some doctors don't like them because there is a concern about addiction but at low doses I have not personally seen this as a problem. Also you may want to try this website which deals directly with Anxiety and Panic.

I am a walking talking example of the benefits of Benzodiazepines for Anxiety. I was diagnosed three years ago with GAD, and was started on a benzo treatment plan. Miracle medications, truly. Most physicians will tell you long term use is not healthy, but is being overly anxious any healthier? Also - the anti-depressants have not been helpful to me. Zoloft put me in a fog.

The benzos are the most common treatments, with or without the Zoloft. Sometimes antidepressants and benzos fail to target the underlying problem though. In those cases, a small dose antipsychotic, mood stabilizer, or anti-hypertension medication will work. Even in the absence of any symptoms that would call for one of those drugs. They merely target other possible root causes of GAD when antidepressants and benzos fail to do so. The neat thing about these other drugs is that they will work fast, if they are to work, so you don't need long trials. One or two weeks each is all that's needed to see results when the right one is discovered. Quick trials of each will stear you in the right direction. But the benzos are clearly the place to start.
