The benzos are the most common treatments, with or without the Zoloft. Sometimes antidepressants and benzos fail to target the underlying problem though. In those cases, a small dose antipsychotic, mood stabilizer, or anti-hypertension medication will work. Even in the absence of any symptoms that would call for one of those drugs. They merely target other possible root causes of GAD when antidepressants and benzos fail to do so. The neat thing about these other drugs is that they will work fast, if they are to work, so you don't need long trials. One or two weeks each is all that's needed to see results when the right one is discovered. Quick trials of each will stear you in the right direction. But the benzos are clearly the place to start.
