lexapro was the only AD that ever worked and it only worked for a month..

and the beznos only work a week or so then my tolerance goes way up and it becomes pointless..when i go to the doctor asking for a higher dose..it just gives a red flag for addiction and that im just trying to get more drugs

so that method of benzos doesnt work

that does not sound like tolerance or poop out... that sounds like the drugs never really worked to begin with... if you are bipolar, a mood stablizer might work like lamictal

Michael,

Answering your question on Sinequan (doxepin). When I first took it, I was in extemely bad shape, and it did turn things around. I took it for years. It helps with anxiey, sleep and depression. Morning sedation can be a problem with it, that might be controlled by either raising or lowering the dose. It's been years since I took it, so I can't remember which, but a search of past posts would clue you in.

I forgot that Effexor was amazing for me, turning around a bad situation in a matter of a week or so. But it's an SSRI, with all the side-effects of SSRI's, the worst is sexual numbness for some people.

Let me know if you have further questions. Sorry that I can't remember more about the dosing of the doxepin. I think it can be as low as 25mg, or as high as 300mg./day

Effexor for me is 75mg 2x/day.

Hope this helps
~Neal

Fentanyl+Desoxyn would be a much better choice than ECT (in terms of both safety and effectiveness), but you won't in a million years get a doctor to prescribe that to you for depression (not his fault -- he would at the very least be putting his license at risk).

Your best bet is probably to "augment" a traditional antidepressant with a CNS stimulant and/or benzodiazepine. You could also try Provigil+Xanax (modafinil and alprazolam, respectively) if none of the traditional ADs are tolerable/effective.

i have not tried that yet..i read the weight gain is bad though

but one question when you take it does it make you feel blissful and happy (or at least content)
and does it give you a sterotype antipychiotic zombie personality

well, theres only one way to really find out what will work for you, but i think clarifying the bipolar would be a good idea when deciding on whether to start an AP or AD first. if you are taking meds availible in the states, for you bipolar i guess i'd suggest ziprasidone or abilify first, since they are pretty low on the long-term side effects, although probably not quite as effective. i guess i'd try valproate next. if the mood stabilizer gets rid of some of the 'anxiety' stuff but isn't doing much for depression, you could add an maoi.

you know you make a good point..
but im going through so much pain everyday i think about blowing off my head with my 12 gauge in my garage..
i know i pray and cry out to God every single day..and i read Psalms ,Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes all to help give me some help and hope...i honestly have something wrong in my brain...i dont see why God would create such a work of art as a human being and make them feel so terrible they end up killing thenselves..i do trust in God alot..but the way i look at it, is that God will provide by helping me by working through the medications and doctors

hope you catch my drift..thanks for your input though

'zombification' is certainly waht happens most people who take these, but sometimes what they numbe is all the anxiety and irritablity. its sort of circular, but if you do have bipolar, they'll probably help, and if you're just depressed+anxious you'll feel about the same only more numb. which is why thinking carfully about if your symptoms match bipolar is worth doing

good luck

and really, the part of the bible about feeling cursed in Job. not sure i'd want to read that _while_ depressed though, maybe stick to contemplating god's love and praying for kindness to others.

don't overlook anticonvulsatns for bipolar, valproate is quite good for mixed states and might help anxiety too.

Michael - please give the handgun to a friend until you find an effective treatment. It would only be just temporary.

When you are testing out meds, you can't predict how they will effect your mood, which they can change w/in a day or two.

PLEASE - my son's aunt had a handgun in the house and ended up shooting herself in the head with a just a few days after she started Prozac. She wasn't having suicidal thoughts before, but started the Prozac and complained she was feeling off. Her daughter found her like that in the morning.

It could happen to anyone. Now if someone sought out to commit suicide, they could find other ways, but using a handgun entails less thinking and planning, and just having it in the house increases the chances. Even if you were just saying that in a joking way, you obviously are aware of the handgun, and even at times things in our subconscious could manifest w/o our 'consent'.

I mean nominal antidepressants -- drugs bearing the distinction of "antidepressant" by having been placed in the artificial category of "antidepressant" (chemicals that relieve depression without elevating mood) by the FDA or respective regulatory agency of your country (if outside the U.S.).

Perhaps something like venlafaxine (Effexor XR) + d-amphetamine (DextroStat, Dexedrine) + clonazepam (Klonopin). Nardil + d-amphetamine would probably be more effective but harder to obtain.

After reading some more of your messages, I'd like to retract my suggestion of stimulants. Have you tried mirtazapine (Remeron)? It can help with your somatic complaints and tension.
