Hello Susan
Listening (if not understanding) is something that small children do.
Judgement is inevitable as we grow.
How we get back to a state of listening and understanding, I don't know.
Maybe when there is less fear and defensiveness?
Some contacts are adversarial. This came to mind, for some reason.
From Dylan's 'My Back Pages'.....
Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.
