In reply to where is God?, posted by smokeymadison on January 24, 2005, at 21:19:49
i grew up as a pastor's daughter in several different denominations. one of the churches believed in demonic possession, the laying of hands, and the speaking in tongues. the experience was quite interesting. my dad is now a Methodist pastor--and i have to hand it to him--he has a contemporary service with a band and during the sermon uses movie and song clips.
but i view God much as i view my dad--distant. for me the male species can never totally understand me, even my boyfriend of over a year. hope i didn't offend anyone. and the Christian God is male, through and through.
that is why i prefer to view God not as the Christian God but as an unseen force who steps in from time to time to intervene in our lives. i have only encountered this force when i have attempted suicide and it never worked out. something unexpected always happened. but i want to know why it takes such drastic circumstances for God to show himself/herself/itself. why not in day to day circumstances?
