My beloved husband and I paddled down the river
we glided over the reflected cloud of pink
with not a breath of wind in the air
we saw an arc of rainbow in the frolicking clouds
too soon came the descending darkness
a pale yellow moon made her way over the oak tree
black birds in the elephant grass were singing with changeling voices
their wings beats upon our approach quickened my heart
the shape of six wood ducks took flight
we could hear their plaintiff cry
the night was perfumed with burning wood
a flash of tiny silver fish jumped out of the still water
creating circles edged with the color of the moonJai
