In reply to Depression is causing me to underperform at work, posted by PhoenixGirl on July 10, 2006, at 21:15:57
That's the story of my work life - underperformance due to depression. I trust you are getting some kind of care for it?
I spent a long time thinking that I was depressed at work in part because I found my job unfulfilling. Certainly that can be a trigger for some. But I've managed to worm my way into basically the job I want, and when I'm depressed it's just the same as on jobs I've been less interested in.
I think you need to do what you have to in order to manage the depression. If your underperformance is still "good enough" just try not to let comments about your behavior looking "kind of weird" bother you.
The other work issue is disclosure. In the right circumstances with an understanding boss it can be a good thing. But it's also a great risk, unfortunately.
