Rotational vertigo--part of effexor XR w/d?

Posted by charlie4 on March 10, 2006, at 8:20:49

I believe my slightly elevated blood pressure is due to being on Effexor XR for 12 years at a dose of 225 mg/day. Mid-Dec., I tapered off to 150 mg. Soon after I experienced vertigo occasionally, always in the afternoon. More troubling are two incidents of severe rotational vertigo, where everything feels and looks like a scene you'd experience if you were inside a dryer. These attacks are short and come only in the evening. After each, I'm wiped, still dizzy, nauseous, and I go right to bed. Dramamine helps with the sick feeling.

Although I initially thought the vertigo was due to sinus problems, or problems with my inner ear, I now believe them to be w/d symptoms.

I am on slightly less than 150 mg. currently (I remove about 10 grains from the capsule). No matter what, I'm getting off this drug, albeit slowly, over, at least, a one year period.

Please advise, help, and support! My dr. wants me to stay on 150 mg indefinitely, but I'd rather decrease every 3 months.

No other symptoms, btw, and no depression.

Thanks so much!
