I found that dropping from 37.5mg to 0.0mg was too rapid a decrease to prevent withdrawal symptoms. I ended up splitting up pills and dividing my daily dosage; taking very small amounts of Effexor 3 times a day. I think dosing several times a day is preferable to once a day because you don't allow for such low troughs in blood levels.

You might want to check out some of my previous posts regarding a flexible-dosing strategy to discontinue Effexor. It seems most applicable when one reduces the dosage below 75mg.

If I were in your position, I might elect to take a short course of Prozac. You might only need to take it for 5 days or so. It has such a long half-life, that it acts to "naturally" and more gently wean you from the serotonergic mechanisms.
