Oh,most CERTAINLY, if one is not ready to quit, only being put away from it will work, and only that for as long as one is "put away". I've been clean for 23 months now,but 18 months were in prison! Of course, I certainly could have gotten drugs/alcohol in prison, but chose not to. Right now, I am doing fine by going to AA, but I cannot tell you I will never drink again or that AA alone would ever give me what I needed to remain sober for life. I DID enjoy drinking, but it led me to drugs. I cannot do drugs again or I will surely be dead in short order (because that's the way I did drugs!).I DO belive that being around other folks who are facing the same struggles, and seeing what they have done to get through them is helpful to me.
