Ive attended 12 step groups for many years for both drugs and alcohol.(NA and AA) im not rying to put you off but the problem being is that you have an illess, and an illness that can never be cured. To an extent they have a point but the devil is in the detail so to speak. Your addictions stem from underlying emotional problems probably stemming from childhood or some undelying emotional truama that you cannot resolve or identify. I found that the more I looked back at my upbringing the more i realised that I was wounded so to speak as a child and I did not have the capacity to untangle the emotional garbage that i was left with. I.e Rejection, loneliness, parental influence, family break-up etc etc. I find the most effective way of understanding myself is to pray for healing and pray often. It may sound naff but I have found a lot of healing and peace.
