Morphine: Not abuse, but effects

Posted by TABob on September 28, 2005, at 23:06:22

I had a heart attack on June 28 and was pumped full of morphine over the next several days. Before the attack, I had major sleep problems, my prostate was causing problems (low flow and incomplete evacuation), I suffered from severe anxiety, and was moderately depressed.

My hospital stay was 5 days.

The things that ocurred after coming home:

1. I slept so much better than I had in the previous 30 years. I was going to bed at a normal time, falling into a deep sleep almost right away, sleeping a straight 8 hours, and WAKING UP COMPLETELY REFRESHED. This was great.

2. For the men: My prostate was fully functionally (I'm 64). I had a powerful stream and complete evacuation.

3. My optimism: Perhaps it was the above two things that caused my optisism, but at any rate, it was great. No depression or anxiety.

These things lasted about 7 days, waned, and were gone after the tenth. I had reverted to my pre-heart attack condition.

I have searched and searched the web but have not been able to find much information.

So, my question to all of you that have had IV morphine, did any of you have similar or not-so-similar experiences?

Thanks beforehand for your information.
